people are rude with the exception of those in the western part of the state.

it's too crowded, even traffics for small towns are horrible.

it stincks, especially in lancaster county, due to overcrowded farmlands. some farmers simply toss their dead animals to their backyard, especially the Amish people. sometimes your craving for nice fresh air, especially in the summer.

the idea of cheating the customers runs across from small business owner to large coperation such as bank.

one of the most racial discrimination places in the US.

too mountainous and hilly. a nice big park is a dream here.

I'll believe it when I see it. I have been hearing that for 25 years now. So far, it hasn't happened. I left in 1971 to get married, then moved to Colorado in 1980. For a while, I missed my family, but now both my parents are gone. The only thing I miss is the fall, but we went back and visited last fall. That was enough; I don't need to live there.

I think much of where you live is what you make of it. It seems like a lot of the people who frequently complain about Pennsylvania are naturally pesimistic and would complain just about anywhere once they've lived there awhile. One things I've noticed from personal experience, is that the people who complain the most about the weather are the ones who spend little time outside. People who love the outdoors don't mind running in the rain, outdoor hobbies in the winter and etc.

PA has traffic, wow, so does Florida. PA has a winter, winter can be beautiful and it makes the Spring more meaningful. In fact I might wind up moving to PA and I would actually miss strong winters if I did. I love having 4 distinct seasons. People then complain that the summers are hot in PA, guess what, they will be hotter anywhere in Florida. PA has some gangs, well even Kansas has gangs, this is 2007, and Florida doesn't have any gangs either I suppose? Someone says PA is too crowded, yet why don't you look at Florida's population density and compare. PA has "nothing"...so sad to be that narrow minded. PA has parks, history of supreme importance, great culture, rolling hills, Great Lakes shoreline and diverse regions including one of the largest cities of the nation.

I guess the point is that it comes down to each individual, you can find a lot of beauty anywhere - and especially in PA. Yet to completely rip on a state over and over again as if it has no value speaks volumes about the poster's attitude in my opinion. Life is what you make of it.

Did you ever notice that more people complain about PA than of the average state? I don't think it is the attitude or pessimism garbage that you're talking about. PA doesn't even get that much snow!

Florida may have gangs and traffic, but it also has beautiful beaches, awesome nightlife, great beaches, resorts etc.. Don't lose sleep over thinking about what PA has.

I'm moving to New Hampshire in June and I can say that I can't wait. 2 years in this state has almost sent me to an early death. I loved New England and I can't wait to return. The people here are the meanest I've ever come across. Almost everybody is looking to rip you off. The roads are the worst in the country. Taxes will be going up even more. The people that I could talk to also hated this state with a passion and have actually been giving me cash offers to go with me to NH!

I love winter, but all we get here is one crappy 5 inch snowfall with a bunch of ice on top of it. Wow!

Please don't generalize everyone who doesn't like your state. I was rather optimistic until I came here in 2005...

mechtm84,
If you are going to reply to my post and quote it, please at least take the time to actually read it. You claim that PA is my home state yet I make it clear in the post and through my name that PA is NOT my home state. Then you make a point of PA actually not having strong winters, when in fact I already made that point.

Good luck in New Hampshire, that is a fine state too, yet if night life is such a big deal, I don't see NH as having an edge on PA.

P.S. I don't believe that anyone actually offered you money to take them to PA. They would just move themselves on their own.

I grew up in PA and now live in TX and have traveled around the country and know people from all over the world. The people of PA stand out - they are CLASSY - they never shoved politics or religion down my throat at a social event like they do everywhere else, especially CA and TX. Humour was a positive trait. However they did lack self righteousness, obnoxious behavior and snobbery so they might not be your cup of tea.

The people on here talking about racial discrimination are liars. Overall, racial discrimination was frowned on. And if your frame of mind is that diversity means brown skin, than by all means PA may not be for you. I can tell you where I live there are increasing numbers of people with brown hair, brown skin and brown eyes and for the first time in my life white people with blue eyes look exotic! Imagine that. They add diversity to the area I live. Whodathunk?

I moved from the Lehigh Valley 8 month ago to FL. The reason I left because of the discrimination. I am from Europe and I have an accent and everybody thougt I was from Latin America in Allentown. Unfortunatelly I have to say that people in the Lehigh Valley are ignorant and prejudist. I had such a hard time to get a job in PA because of my accent. (University graduate, well literate, now working for the Univ. of Miami of Medicine Center for Liver Diseases). I lived in PA for more than 10 years and If I didn't have a problem with people discriminate me I wouldn't probably never moved. I like PA and the 4 seasons and I wish I could move back but instead I am moving to CT this year!

I have just returned home to North Eastern Pennsylvania after a 30 year forced labor in NYC. From NYC to Pittston - you can barely note all the differences.

There are good and bad on both lists:

* Working on Wall Street since I was 18 enabled me to "retire" at 46 - ok, I took a little job to get medical insurance - My salary is less than I used to spend on shoes.

* I now have a 10 minute commute.

* I don't hit one pothole in that 10 minute commute.

* Although the high school my daughter is attending is not especially "better" - they are on top of her and making sure she does what she is supposed to do. There are less than 1200 kids in her Pa school. Her NY school had 1200 in her grade.

* A NYer will tell you their life story within 30 seconds - a PAer takes a while to warm up to you.

* My Boss is amazed at what I accomplish in a short time.

* I am amazed that my Boss thinks everyone should be grateful for working here (again - the pay scale is WAY OFF).

* My house cost much less than Gross National Product of mid-level countries.

* In both NY and Pa, my neighbors helped me shovel snow. In both places, I always ask my elderly neighbors if they want anything before I go to the store.

* In Pa, I get the feeling my townies would prefer to see a hearse in front of my house than a Mercedes. Owning a 4x4 makes sense in Pa.

* You actually need a car here - cause, Mass Transit is almost non-existant.

* Lowes and Home Depot in NY insist on checking my receipt as I leave the store - do I look like a thief?

* The Wilkes-Barre Courthouse displays a beautiful life-size Nativity at Christmas. What about that line in the Constitution about "seperation of Church and State"?

*I am Pagan and am wondering how they will feel about my Yule Bonfire. In NYC my neighbors hollared - "Yo - WTF are ya burnin?"

So, all in all... there is good and bad everywhere. I find the key to my happiness lies between my own ears.

Cheers!

Linda

Broad Street Bully here.

Born in Southwest Philly. Move to Bucks County Pa. Live there until March 2006 then moves to Concord NC.

Philadelphia Pa isn't what it used to be.
High taxes, city wage tax, high car insurance plus many more.

Bucks County Pa is getting over crowded, taxes already went to the roof and housing cost is getting out of hand.

That is the only bad part about Philadelphia Pa and its suburbs.

Right now, I'm residing in Concord, NC Cabarrus County. It is almost like home away home.

Only way I can move back to Pa if I win the lottery.
