Question Daily Morning Commute from Hershey/Hummelstown to Lancaster?

Any thoughts on how practical this would be? I got a job in Lancaster but may settle down in either Hershey or Hummelstown.

How bad would the return trip from Lancaster be around 5 or 5:30 p.m.?

Thanks in advance!

Route 283 is usually a good ride with little problems. Getting out of Lancaster City can be difficult at rush hour but most of the time it's not too bad. Good luck with your new job and home.

Getting to and from 283 to Hershey is sometimes bad in rush hours. Frequent wrecks on 743 between Hershey and the west Elizabethtown interchange will stop the traffic that is usually heavy but moving. The Middletown-Hummelstown road (called S. Hanover St. in Hummelstown Boro, Middletown Rd. in Derry Twp, and Vine St. in the three municipalities on the Middletown end) is also heavy traffic but shorter and better regulated by lights. Turning from Wood Rd onto Middletown Rd is a problem in rush hour, and also the service road between Middletown Rd and Waltonville Rd for the US 322 interchange, both stack up.

one more question, how long could I realistically expect the morning commute from Hershey to Lancaster to take time-wise?

Thanks again!

Couple times I interviewed at offices in Lanc. City I deliberately said 8:00 for interview time and made it in 35 min. But from my zip 17036 Derry Twp location I can cut over country roads to Toll House Rd exit so I'd definitely plan on 45 min from the south/SW corner of Derry or an hour from central Hershey getting across 322.
