I'll either have to look it up or start it. I am in Cumberland County, home sweet home.

Hi Bev--where are you aat in Cumberland County? I lived in Mechanicsburg for 11 years and we enjoyed it while we were there. There are many things I miss about Pennsylvania, but winter isn't one of them. While we lived there I used to make candles and did different craft shows almost every weekend of the year except for Jan & Feb.. do you know if they still have a lot of them up there--or have they kind of died out by now?

I recently moved here from Berks County area. Today I miss fastnauchts. I googled it to see if I could find them here in Dallas- and nothing. Not that any body needs a big fatty potato donut. Im sure I couldnt find the turkey syrup to put on top.

I am in Camp Hill. I actually love to go to flea markets and auctions. Silver Springs Flea Market is gone - now we have Target, Kohls and Wegmans. I have to drive all the way to Saturday's Market (south of Middletown) for the same "crappy" feel. There is a flea market in the old Williams Grove amusement part in Mechanicsburg now but I don't think it is open in the winter. It is actually pretty cool with people selling things next to old amusement rides and a little building shaped like an ice cream cone. I think there is a huge craft fair at the Farm Show Building but I have never gone. Two women in my office take the day off work to go.

Today is my oldest son's birthday (22) and we went out to dinner--"fat tuesday" and PA fastnaucts got brought up. I had never heard of them before I lived in central PA and I haven't heard of them since But boy, they were always all over the news when we lived there!
PS I never would have known how to spell it so thanks a million

If I remember correctly, the trailer park that was out there by the flea market got sold while we were there. The Kohls opened while we were still there, but I can't remember the Target. Giant grocery was moving out from the side where Lowe's and WalMart were--but I think WalMart was wanting something bigger too. We lived right off of 114 going into Mechanicsburg--just past Texico road. Can't think of the suction house that was back there--but I used to get some teriffic buys out there. When we moved the Red Robin or Round Robin--whatever it is had just opened. I was absolutely shocked when I made a trip back in 2003 to find that Phico had gone out of business The farm show building used to have a huge craft show at Christmas--the one I'm thinking of lasted like 10days or something.
It's funny you brought up Williams Grove--they closed didn't they? I thought I saw that they sold a lot of the rides...Anyway, I miss Ashcombs and Country Market. We don't have anything like that down here in Florida.
Thanks for the update! It's always fun to hear about changes in places that you have lived.

I apologize to all--I don't mean to hijack this thread--but I can't figure out out to DM you--just curious is you could DM me and let me know how you like Texas and Dallas.....I am considering Texas--as pretty much my only other suitable place outside of Florida. Would love to hear your take on the whole thing. Thanks
Again, apologies to OP and all others here.

Itsajourney: You are in Florida? I just moved back to this area from Delray Beach about 9 months ago. I love it there but the job market is a mess and I work in commercial real estate.
The Lowe's is still empty, moved to the site of the old trailer park across from the Holiday Inn. Evidently Sam's Club wanted the space but they can't sell booze (so I heard).
The Phico building sold for a song, less than $100 a SF I think. I would not be surprised if it cost them $250/sf to build it. The front part of that site is under development now. I think it is going to be an office park. That is a really weird location for an office building.
There is a huge office park now along 581 just off Wertzville Road. In it is also a large "sort of
hospital" with attached medical office building. IBM has a large facility there with I think over 400 employees. It was done very well, unlike Rossmoyne Business Park/industrial park.
Giant moved to the other side of 114 and the space was subdivided for multi-tenants. I think Marshall's or something like that moved into part of the space.
Itsajourney: I went to the University of Texas at Austin and interned in Dallas. I despise Dallas. Austin, on the other hand is a treasure. If you go to Dallas don't be fooled by the "low" real estate prices because the premium school districts, mainly near Southern Methodist Univ. are expensive. Traffic there can be problematic but depending on where you live in Florida it is NOTHING. I lived in Palm Beach and Miami Dade Counties and nothing I have ever seen compares to the traffic on I-95 in SE Florida.
