I think most of the gossiping will be among groups - such as if you had kids (and I know you don't, so this is just an example) in Little League or other sports or activities sometimes the parents get together and discuss the other parents. Hopefully it's not mean-spirited but people are people and sometimes it can be a bit harsh. We belong to a small church and it seems like everyone is related to or knows everyone else. Conversations begin with, "George Jones told me the other day" and then get interrupted into "Isn't he married to ___ and cousin to ____?" and then get all sidetracked. It's amusing - and very informational too as relative "newbies" to the area ourselves (and not related to anyone at our church - LOL).
