Well, for additional information you could check the related threads about Lewisburg at the bottom of this page.
Lewisburg is in central PA, right along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. IMO it is one of the nicest towns in all of central PA (and actually all of PA period). It is the home of Bucknell University, a good academic school. The area where it's located is in the Appalachian Ridge and Valley region and contains a large amount of farmland. That part of Pennsylvania is fairly rural, though not as rural as the areas west of Lewisburg. I don't know how arty the town is, but Bucknell probably helps in that regard.

whoa i didn't know about that, thanks!
also, is the weather colder because it's inland? for instance, is it like upstate NY (piles of snow)? or more like say NYC?
i'm going to check on those threads now. thanks again.

Lewisburg and central PA in general can get pretty cold, but it isn't as cold as places further to the north and west. It also gets some snow but isn't in a heavy snow area because it is far from Lakes Ontario and Erie and there are some mountains between Lewisburg and those lakes that "wring" out the snow.

Lewisburg is lovely and would probably fit your needs. There are a handful of restaurants downtown and others within a short drive.
Lewisburg is considered central PA, not western or eastern. It's also in the "Susquehanna Valley" so you may want to use that term in searches also.
It's a pretty flat town surrounded by lots of farmland and some rolling hills. You don't get into "mountains" until you're further west in Union County. Of course, one person's mountain is another person's hill.
The university and downtown theater provide quite a bit of the arts in the area. The downtown also holds numerous festivals and parades throughout the year, as well as a spectacular July 4th fireworks display, and summertime concerts in the downtown park.
Snowfall and cold is probably about average. It's a odd winter when you can't see the grass for at least half of it, but there can be snowfalls totaling up to a foot at a time - and the occasional "nor'easter" that dumps a couple feet of snow. Temps rarely get to 0 Fahrenheit in the winter and can range as high as 100 in the summer but that's rare also
It's quite humid in the area, so temperatures can feel more toward the extreme (cold feels colder and hot feels hotter/muggier). If you haven't been to Lewisburg yet, come check it out. There are a number of nice hotels (chain and otherwise) and some quaint bed and breakfast inns where you could stay,.

thanks so much. i'm definitely going to check it out if things keep progressing towards a possible move that way. i'm finding there really isn't much about lewisburg out there so this forum is such a great help.
do either of you know what the people in that area are like? i know PA is not one of the new england states, but is it actually considered midwest? i'm wondering if people mind to themselves for the most part or if they're more outgoing? southern hospitality? maybe this is something i'll have to gather for myself when i visit. but i guess essentially my question is do you like it there and do you find the people friendly? also, i don't know how to ask except bluntly: is everybody in everybody else's business gossiping etc. (because it is so small)? or is there space given to people by others? i'm not sure a short visit is going to give me a good indication of how people are in that aspect so i really value your opinions.
thanks again.

Lewisburg is one of my favorite smaller towns in central PA. Occasionally, I and sometimes a friend of mine would drive down PA 45 from State College to Lewisburg just to walk around, eat, etc. For food, if you go, I highly recommend the Bull Run Inn (they have really, really awesome sweet potato fries with honey drizzled on them!) on the main street of Lewisburg (it's on the right next to the park)
Also, The Purple Cow west of Mifflinburg (~10 miles west of Lewisburg on PA 45)...has some really, really, really awesome soft serve ice cream and other treats!
Good luck, and have fun!

Just make sure you take a look at a FEMA floodzone map before you buy.

Actually I think it is considered Mid Atlantic. Yes people are very friendly in small towns in PA. I am not sure about Lewisburg but i know in some other small towns there can be a lot of gossiping.
