Default I-80 sights?

Hi all,

I'm driving cross country in May, from New York to San Francisco. Is there anything interesting along I-80 in Pennsylvania that I should stop and check out?

Thanks!

You'll be driving through an area referred to as the PA Wilds | Home - are you looking for natural attractions, history, culture? Then, does it need to be really close to an exit, or are you willing to drive 5? 10? 20? miles off the highway?

There really isn't along the highway; when you get outside of NJ just in to the Delaware Water Gap area, you'll see a lot of great scenery as you will travelling through the Pocono Mountains area. Then it gets pretty boring for a very long time.

Oh anything really that's worth seeing and learning about. I don't know anything about that part of Pennsylvania, and it'd be a shame to drive right past something really interesting. I wouldn't mind going off the highway a little ways, considering its worth it. The PA Wilds look amazing.

Welcome to Denny's Beer Barrel Pub - not to be confused with the chain Denny's!

Berkey Creamery - Creamery - although coming out from NYC you'd hit it before Denny's, no reason not to have dessert first, life is short

The "Eternal Tap" at http://www.straubbeer.com/brewery.htm

Pennsylvania State Parks - Cook Forest Wildlife - PA DCNR

I once lived in the IA-IL Quad Cities so can recommend locations of caloric overload there too.

I second Denny's Beer Barrel Pub. Great burgers there and they are famous for their large burgers (5+ pounds). You do have to call ahead I think if you want a burger 3 pounds or more.

BWP Baseball Bat company is right off of I-80 near Brookville. Not sure exactly what exit they're on, but they have billboards along I-80 that will tell you which exit its on. If you like baseball, it's neat to go there and see how the bats are made. They give free tours of the factory and you do not even need to call ahead.

There's a lot to see and do if you're interested in seeing some historical and informational sites about Pennsylvanians mining history a short drive off when you get to the I-80/I-81 split.

Here's two, the first one has tours inside a mine:

Welcome to Pioneer Tunnel

Eckley Miners' Village

Also in the vicinity is Pottsville, home to Yuengling Beer "America's oldest Brewery".

Official Yuengling Web Site: America's Oldest Brewery
