Mifflinburg PA anyone??
We will be moving there from Alaska this summer. Hopefully someone has good things to say. My DH will be working at the old Laurelton Center and in Middletown for National GUard duty.
TIA, April

Mifflinburg is a very nice little community, with a large new grocery store, a couple of convenience stores, some restaurants, a quaint downtown area and near Christmas they host a Christkindl Market event that is just wonderful. They have a historic society, a buggy museum, a branch of the Union County library, and a good school system.
May I ask what your husband will be doing at the old Laurelton Center? I can't remember who ended up buying it and what it's going to be.
The Union County West End Fair is held in August not too far from the Laurelton Center. It's a nice small-town country fair that gets some pretty darn good entertainment.

Our friends bought the old Laurelton Center. My DH will be helping get the different businesses they have planned up and off the ground. Many good plans are in store.
We are hoping to find a house in Mifflinburg buy may have to branch out to Lewisburg or Middleburg. I have even looked at a few houses in your neck but the commute would be too long.
Thanks for the reply!!

Cool!
I'd recommend not going into the Midd-West School District area, which includes Middleburg. They have some "issues" involving new schools, combining two districts into one, etc. Also, Middleburg seems to have water problems. About once a month (I'm sure it's not that often but it seems like it sometimes) they have an advisory notifying the citizens to boil their water before using it.
Lewisburg is very nice. Hartleton, near Laurelton, is a cute little community and still in the Mifflinburg School District area. No matter where you go, watch out for flood-prone areas if you're near Penn's Creek.
There's also "Dice", the little area on Route 304 between Mifflinburg and New Berlin. And New Berlin is a beautiful little community that you might want to look into. They have their own elementary school and then the kids go to Mifflinburg for middle and high school. The only thing with New Berlin is they have no home mail delivery. Everyone has a box in the post office.

That's good to know about Middleburg. Little things the realtors don't let you know I wondered why some of the houses in Middleburg have been on the market so long.
We looked online at a few house on Dice but they both sold
I will have 2 children starting school this fall and eventually my son will be to so schools are important.
Right now my realtor is just okay. We are not moving til June so the comission from us is not her top priority right now I guess.

i can suggest that they've been on the market for som long because most jobs require you to commute to sunbury or selinsgrove, both about a 20 - 30 minute drive. i live in harrisburg about an hour or so south. my brother drove to sunbury for work for about 2 years for holsum bread, he really liked it, but the drive killed him, so he quit and found something closer to home. i always thought it weas a nice area. there is a winery on shade mountain that i have been to a few times. i dont knoe about alaska, but it snows about 2 - 3 feet per year here.

Mifflinburg is really nice, definitely check out the outlying areas. Hartleton is nice and so is Milmont. I grew up in a little village outside of Milmont, and the houses in all of Mifflinburg area are much cheaper than what I see in other parts of Pennsylvania. Also, my sister is working on moving in order to get my niece into the Mifflinburg schools, which is where all of my siblings and I went. Most people consider it to be a very good school, and I certainly cannot complain. It gave me an excellent foundation for school.

We were in Mifflinburg on Sunday and stopped at the local grocery store. It's practically brand new and very nice. My 14 yo son commented on the fact that you know you're in Amish country when the stores provide hitching posts and there are brown stains on the pavement there.

Is there Little League baseball in Mifflinburg? We are considering a move there from the Philadelphia area, and wanted to know what was available for our 3 children (10, 8, 6). They love athletics.
Thanks!
