Default Milford to Mahwah

Without having checked mapquest, I'd guess that Milford is roughly midway between Scranton and Mahwah; probably an hr each way-maybe a little longer to Mahwah.
The Milford area is nice and overall rural but the small towns in Pike county are popular and growing. In another thread on this forum I believe SWB posted photos of Milford; you should be able to find them with a search.
The easiest way to get to Scranton from Milford would be rte 84 west. I think to get to Mahway you'd take rte 84 E to rte 17, then head south.
Generally there's not much traffic on rte 84, so it's not a bad drive in either direction.

Along with pawn shops and strip joints. And bugs the size of my hand. And lizards that get in your house. And lovebugs. And 95 degree days for months on end.And annoying tourists. There are no beautiful mountains in Florida. No beautiful trees changing colors in the fall.No rolling farmland. One of my biggest pet peeves I had in Florida is how people would walk around barefoot at the stores. So gross. As you can see you can pick any state and find really nice things and really not so nice things. Can we please stay on topic about PA and talk about the virtues of Florida in the Florida forum?
And they don't call Florida SCAMLAND for no reason! I was one of Boca Raton's largest and most successful employers and I wound up defrauded in 1994 and living in my car after having lived in a mansion. I have been stuck in NJ since then because I owned a condo here and the penalties against me as a result of having been the CEO of a public company also defrauded have made me unable to relocate until NOW. I have the PA plates on my vehicle and I just need to find the right area and house and I can't wait! Give me a Shop-Rite or reasonable facsimile (never Tiffany for me again!), a competent veterinarian and a decent public library and I long for a cozy tranquil peaceful existence where I can finally get the healing I deserve! I am by myself and my dogs and never bored or boring and will do just fine with a house that smells of homemade soup, has a wood-burning fireplace, privacy, NO ASSOCIATION OR CORRUPT BOARD to run my life and just, simply, frugality and calm. If I never purchase another thing beyond a house, lovely furnishing and warm touches and groceries for the rest of my life, that works for me. School systems are unimportant. Safety, comfort and an affordable house with some character and charm will give me the life I earned.

Very eager for suggestions.

Prefer being somewhat accessible to my northern NJ support system but not essential if it means abandoning my dream. My dream???? To do something I have not once done in my too-busy corporate lifetime: I want to do the dinner dishes and GO INTO THE LIVING ROM, CURL UP WITH MY DOGS AND WATCH TELEVISION. It's not a luxury I have had, ever!

Please - guide me?

Thank you in advance.

Oh, being stranded in a blizzard is delicious for me. If I can't leave for years, I will not get cabin fever. )

IT really is............PA is the best.
I think that the Brodheadville area is just perfect. There is a great school system, a wonderful library, good school sports.....and tons of things to do listed in the "West End Happenings" brochure. For everyone of all ages.
The houses are on wonderfully large pieces of land, with mountain views.
We are not that far from visiting the shows of Broadway, the shore, Philly or NYC.
What we don't need here is for it to change. It needs to stay slow, quiet, and crime free.
We don't need the inner city crime. Parents shouldn't move here who will not be home with their children. Kids need a good, solid family sense of values,
and attention. They won't get it if you leave at 4AM for the city and return at 8PM.
One of my daughters took the smallest home in a new development so as to stay home with her boys. She had a fantastic paying job, and they wanted her to stay. Her home was not as important to her, then her family.
Some postings are right. Don't come here for better taxes, they are rising.
Don't come here and think we have the rush, rush, better then thou attitude. We don't.
Plan to keep an eye on your children as far as where they are, and what their grades are.
We are a land of lakes, mountains, and streams.........of parks and fields.....small towns with fun happenings going on.
Don't bring the city issues with you if you plan on living in Pa.

To each his own.You like Florida that's great but it's not for everyone.

I'm with you. I'm on these boards researching where we want to move to fora better quality of life. My problem with LI is that there is no qualityof life here becasue you have to work work work work.. non stop just to pay the bills.. never mind anything else. Costo f living here is way out of control not only because of the property taxes and what youget for your money housing wise, but everything is more expensive.. car insurance, health insurance etc. I'm looking forward to finding a very quiet place with a lot of property to live, but close enough to some busier areas to keep us all entereetained. These boards are soooo informative. I have probably 1 1/2 years before I can actually move..but I'm starting to research now.

Wow Lots of us in the same boat Tristansmommy and storminateacup!!

We have lived in Phoenix, Arizona for the last 10 years and WE HATE IT!!! Its supposed to be paradise but it is a keeping up with the joneses hell. The schools are AWFUL, if you are not blonde and anorexic you are snubbed (I'm brunette and 130 lbs so I'm nothing). We have insane homeowners associations, postages stamp yards, huge block walls between neighbors, no front porches all the houses look alike and are all decorated EXACTLY alike.I feel like we live in Stepford!! We FINALLY sold our 3000 sf tract home hell and are moving back to Collegeville, PA where we left from.We will rent until we find an old farmhouse to buy.
Our friends still remember us and we've got 3 welcome home parties scheduled already. The place I did volunteer work for heard through the grapevine I would be back, got my e-mail and said she could sure use my help when I returned! Here in Phoenix I tried for years to volunteer at my kids' schools and was just toally ignored, never called, wouldn't let me help when I showed up anyway!. We don't have even 1 person who will be there to wish us a good trip when we leave here. If I hadn't experienced this place I wouldn't believe it.
People need different things from the places they live and I need good, kind accepting, loyal people - the kind that are still willing to welcome our family back after 10 years away!!!
My best advice is try to visit the area you think you might want to move to at least several times. Just watch what goes on - what the houses look like inside - is it all "Impress"? or "Happy family" decor? Do the women look like models who spend more time on their nails than on their kids or really improving their community? Are the guys GQ or active Dad?
Sorry for the soapbox post - its been a long lonely 10 years and I'm moving HOME in 21/2 weeks!!!!!
Cheers and good luck to everyone searching for a great place to live -
MERF
