Kate & Dru is on a distinguished road
Question New family moving to Mansfield and Troy area

We are a small family of three, which includes my husband and I and our 1 year old daughter. Due to a job transfer, we'll be moving out there by the end of march and staying for at least a year or longer. I joined the forum to hopefully get tips on housing. We are looking for a house to rent with at least two bedrooms. Finding housing on-line has not been easy - considering the sizes of the towns. I use to live in a small town so I am excited to once again live in one again. If anyone has any ideas for housing or on anything else to do with the area, please feel free to respond.

Thanks for reading!

Kate, Dru, and baby Briar

I can't speak for Troy but at least in the Mansfield area there are very few houses for rent. Mostly it's a very small area with a consistent older population and the only transient population is college students, hence few houses up for rent. Finding an apartment is much easier.

You can find rentals in the classifieds of Wellsboro Gazette online:
The Wellsboro Gazette

Or check with the local real estate companies for help. I know one of the real estate companies has someone that specializes in rentals.

Troy is a very pretty town inside the borough limits. Mansfield has much less curb appeal, which is strange because it has a college. For Troy, maybe check the Towanda daily newspaper Towanda, Pa. news, sports, obituaries, and shopping | thedailyreview.com - The Daily & Sunday Review from time to time, if you haven't found it yet.

I was puzzled by this too. Wellsboro was cute as a button and made a great setting for one of my photo tours. Troy is a place I'd still like to photograph someday. Mansfield? Not so much. I just don't know why, but Mansfield is like the red-headed step-child of the Northern Tier in terms of aesthetics. Towanda, Tunkhannock, Wyalusing, Montrose, Troy, Wellsboro, and Coudersport are all beautiful, but Mansfield is just kind of "gritty" looking.

Well I don't think there is much going on in Mansfield other than the college which is part of the problem. The main street is short, brief and a little rundown and most of the few shops cater to college age students. Also it's a disconnected town with no cohesiveness. The college on the hill, the brief main street down below, wal mart and other shopping two miles down from main street, the new business park a mile from downtown.
