Default Looking for the "Best Of" in Berks County...

Hi~

Have posted here before during our relo and got some extremely useful information on the area..
We are in the Wyomissing area and I have a few questions now that we are here.
I have been trying to locate an area magazine, something that may be useful to let us know things to do,best restaurants,etc...

So,any help on the following:
Best Mexican in Wyomissing/Sinking Spring area? tried one place (don't remember the name,it was awful!)
Best Italian and Best pizza places (don't like the chains)
Best hair salons
Public playgrounds?

Looks as though there will be plenty to do around here, but needing some help on the above.

Thanks in advance!

There is not alot of Mexican in wyomissing and Sinking Springs. Muhlenburg has a place called Alebrijeh(?)..pretty much the main mexican food around. I know there are two new places. One near the Sheraton and one over at the Wyomissing shopping center.

Best Italian would be The Coliseum. I don't really remember where it is but I want to say Muhlenburg/Leesport area.

Best Pizza hands down is Mamas pizza on Penn street.

Don't know about hair salons as I cut my own hair(and yes its as bad as youd think)

The best playground is in Mohton..wood playground with everything needed for fun. Went there all the time when I was younger.

Don't forget that you are in PA Dutch country..so don't forget to go and absorb some of that. Shoe fly pie..just do it.

The museum is top quality..I'm actually a distant relative of the guy who founded it so I have to advertise.

The Historica society is nice.

visit the Pagoda, the Oley dairy farm, the Silo night club, a farmers market or two for a real feeling of the area.

This is the county magazine, I think they sell it at borders/barnes & noble.
It has a lot of dining info in it.

I would say that
Alebrije would be the best for Mexican.

I think the coliseum was tore down, it was on the way to kutztown on 222.

Mom Chaffe’s in west reading has great Italian food. GNA is more of a pizza shop environment.

My wife gets her haircut in west reading, I cant remember the name but its across from viva and down the street at the corner.

I you haven't already, you need to go to the farmers market over at the fairgrounds square mall. It's open Thursday,Friday and Saturday. Go on a Thursday or 1st thing Saturday morning, as it gets very busy and a lot of the stands run out of food quickly. The produce is great and they have many local, ethnic and gourmet stands. The prices are a lot lower than what you would find in any of the grocery stores for similar items.

Hope this helps!

Thanks so much-I appreciate it!
You know, that Mexican place IS the place we ordered from and honestly, it was awful, probably the worst Mexican we have ever had. With that said,we were talking to someone one day about it and they said they were surprised because it is always good. We did take out, so were wondering if for some reason, the quality isn't the same... we will give them another chance though.
Thanks again!
I will look for the magazine.

Best pizza: Bruno's in Exeter in the Boscovs Mall.
Best Cheesesteaks: V and S. In the Exeter Promenade mall but there are V and S in Wyomissing and Muhlenberg and other places.
Best desserts: Sweet Street on Hiester's lane, although Arner's in Wyomissing has the best pies in a restaurant anywhere. And a good salad bar. Chef Alan's in West reading is also a nice place.
There's a place in West Reading that has good italian, GNA. But there's a local place in Reiffton that's good. Italian places are pretty common.
The Farmer's market in Fairgrounds mall( north end) is awesome.
Azteca just opened next to the Red Lobster by the Berkshire mall and they are mexican. I haven't eaten there.
Best Burgers: Schell's Ranch House in West Lawn and in Temple. Ranchburgers.... mmmmmm
Westlawn/Robesonia has other good places. Ozgood's, and a BBQ place.

Ice Tea hit two great nails on the head there that I want to point out.

V&S has the best cheesesteaks outside of Philly and Schells has one of the greatest feels of any resturant I've been to.

Thank you all so much for all the info! I really do appreciate it!
I think that there is one of those V&S Sandwhich places not far from our home, we will have to look at that too.
Anyone familiar with "Hair On The Avenue" ? sounds like a nice salon...

Thanks again so much!
