Default Lewisburg

We are now looking at a few houses in Lewisburg. It's a little bit more of a commute but there are more choices for homes.
ANyone here live there?? How are the schools? Taxes are a little high.
I would like to hear it all. The Good. The bad. And the ugly.

Hi again. I'm really not following you from post to post.

Lewisburg schools are excellent. The community is so nice. Some areas close to the river and some low-lying areas do flood occasionally. They have an excellent library, grocery stores, restaurants, an "old-fashioned" theater in the downtown and of course, Bucknell University. Most of Lewisburg's problems are university-related (parties, students with "entitlement" attitudes, traffic during sporting events, etc.). If you don't live right near the student housing you shouldn't have any problems.

Some people think Lewisburg is a bit on the snobbish side, but I've not found that with the people I know who live there. Everyone I know is very down to earth and friendly. I think if you're looking for more to do outside your home, Lewisburg would be better than Mifflinburg, with more choices.

HI again

Lewisburg sounds great. Lately we seem to find more houses on our price range in the MiddWest school district. I have such a headache from all this!

MiddWest does have lower priced housing, but the school district definitely has some "issues", most of which stem from the fact that it used to have two distinct areas which have been combined recently. Middleburg had its own schools and Beaver Springs (the western end of the county) had its own schools. They've combined all the schools in the district, which has led to some hard feelings. The schools were rivals before and now they have to co-exist. Also, the parents at the western end whose children are being bused to the eastern end are not happy with the length of time the children are on the buses. Personally, I wouldn't be either.

The Beavertown/Beaver Springs areas are mostly farmland (with a drag racing strip near Beaver Springs) and from what I understand (from a source in law enforcement) there are some real drug problems in the western end of Snyder County (which also includes McClure).

For affordable housing I would suggest looking maybe a bit further north - Watsontown specifically. That's the Warrior Run School District, another very good school district in this area. You'll find affordable housing in Milton, but my personal feeling is that it's not a place I'd want my kids to go to school.

I know there are also affordable places in the Selinsgrove school distict (my personal area) but sometimes you have to hunt to find them. I would check out some websites, and maybe call a couple local realtors for some guidance.

Most of the communities in the "Susquehanna Valley" have some flooding issues in places, so check with your realtor about those also. It's mostly along the river, but can also include smaller creeks and streams.

Hey again. That stinks about the schools. I have 2 children who will be in school when we arrive. We found a house in Beavertown that was nice.

But we also found a house in Selinsgrove that would work great. It is in the Lewisburg school district. THe bathroom was ALL pink I mean the toilet, bathtub, sink AND wallpaper! Somebody loved pink. Thank goodness I have a handy husband!

There is an area where the addresses are Selinsgrove but the homes are actually in Union County, which is why they're in the Lewisburg school district. We used to have a Winfield address, which confused people to no end. Winfield's post office is in Union County (Lewisburg schools) but our home was in Snyder County (Selinsgrove schools). Then we have friends with a Winfield address, in the Selinsgrove school district, with a Mifflinburg phone number!! Talk about confusing. LOL!

PINK!! I thought our pink tile was bad. At least our porcelains are white. House hunting is an adventure!

The house was sold. I am so ready to throw in the towel on this house hunting business. Things must be picking up in your area because any house in the 200,000 range keeps getting snatched up. Granted we have 2 months but this is frustrating. If you see any nice houses for sale feel free to let me know

April

I wish I could provide you with some info on Lewisburg but I can't. Even though I lived there for 20 years and worked there for decades, there are people on this board who never have worked or lived in Lewisburg. They know more about it than I do.

Go figure.
