Is Quakertown safe, crimewise? Say for starting a family?
Well I can't move to PA any time soon. I'm 18 years old (Yes I realize I'm young) who enjoys researching the future. I've had my heart set on moving to Pennsylvania for a long time simply to get out of the Bronx. I want a new life experience for my future.
In any case I've been, in a sense, jumping from city to city in PA looking for my ideal kind of city to live in. I'm looking for a few factors in which to move to a city in PA. Cheap living, safe for a new family (No I'm not starting a family yet. I'm way too young with too much ahead of me. Although I believe teens my age are being very irresponsible, I won't fall into the typical female teen mother statistic.), close to NYC because my mom doesn't want me too far away. I've checked mapquest and it's a mere 2 and a half hours from NYC so I can be close in the future, and this is the least important factor but still one I'm considering, a town near an amusement park. Preferably Dorney and Hershey parks. I know it's not a reason to live somewhere but I am obsessed with amusement parks considering my lack of visiting them and my love for roller coasters.
I've been reading threads on this forum frequently about PA and its cities and everyone's opinion to see where the best place to live is and so far, I'm liking Quakertown from what I've read. So is it safe and family friendly?
Thanks in advance.

Seems like nobody responds to threads when you admit you are relocating from out of state! I have posted a few threads and nobody responds to me....frustrating! I'm from Long Island, NY and I have been living in Bucks county, PA for 2 years. I love PA because it is very suburban, much like Long Island. Quakertown may be a bit of a culture shock for you, being used to the Bronx which is as urban as it gets. Quakertown is an up and coming area, it is kind of rural as compared to surrounding areas such as Perkasie, Chalfont etc... It is a very safe area though. Bucks & Montgomery counties ( where Quakertown is ) are more expensive when it comes to Real Estate compared to Berks county. I want to purchase a home there simply because you get a lot more house for your money. I commend you for being so mature for your age and looking to better your life. I wish you the best of luck, you have a good head on your shoulders.

Quakertown is a nice town, fine for a young family.
I guess the reason I didn't respond, frankly, is because you've said you're 18 so it's unlikely that you are going to be moving any time soon.

Thank you both for your responses. I realize I'm young but I do have plans for a better future. Hopefully it all works out. I'm tired of the bronx. From what I've seen Quakertown doesn't seem too suburban with a seemingly nice community. I'm also used to being in the suburbs, I have family in Jersey in the suburbs and I just love being out there. I also don't like the big city too much but it's tolerable, so you can say I'm in between. Hopefully within 10 years I can be on my way out of this shady city and into someplace better.
Word to the wise for those who want to live in New York City, outside of Manhattan is not all it's pepped up to be. In my opinion anyways.

Quakertown is not a suburb. It's a small town. The definition of a suburb is usually a residential area or community outlying a city. While there are people that commute to Philadelphia and Allentown, many of the residents live and work in the immediate area.

I lived in Quakertown from 1975 through 2005. It was always a safe town, though (like anywhere) crime was/is on the rise. I'm currently residing 12 miles West of Quakertown now, but I'm looking to move out of the area all together. (getting too built up for me!) But for the area, anywhere South of Emmaus to North of Doylestown is a good place to live, and Quakertown falls directly in the middle. Any place closer to Philly or Allentown, and it goes down hill.

So I've heard. I hear all the lowlives from here (NYC) and Jersey are just flocking to Allentown and that's what I'm trying to escape from. I know that no matter where you go, there will be lowlives but out here is ridiculous!
Well my fiance and I are planning a trip to Quakertown sometime in 2 years, so if we like what we see then we're pretty much set on Quakertown. If we don't like it then we'll see elsewhere.
