The best thing about the location for you is that it is right near an exit for I-81, and that is how you would connect with I-81 or I-78 (depending on how you want to go) for your commute.

That sounds like a great area. Can you recommend any apartment complexes for a 1 bed place around $700/month? I looked at those triple crown places but they were mostly 2-3 bedrooms and upwards of $1000/mo. I'm heading out to PA on monday, so I'd like to set up some appointments at different complexes to tour what they have. Thanks

You may want to get off at the Front street exit and head down into Midtown/Uptown Harrisburg. Some complexes but more townhouses/rowhouses that have been subdivided. Susquehanna township is nice and also convenient but if you want a true city feel, you're not going to get it there.

You would probably be satisfied with High Pointe. It is close to Progess and the shopping there as well as I-81. I would only sign a 6-month lease to make sure you are comfortable with the commute and the location.

I would also look at Briarcrest Gardens in Hershey while you are in the area. The units are sorts of 1980's-ish but the location is very nice near the medical center with lots of residents and nursing students. Hershey is a very upscale area and if you look at a map you can get to I-81 pretty easily and you are a good 12 miles east of Harrisburg.

Thanks, I'll add them to my list.
Has anyone heard anything (negative or positive) about Williamsburg Estates, Colonial Park, The Pines, Wedgewood Hills, Village of Laurel Ridge, or Aspen Hill? Those are just some of the ones I've come acrossed online and any reviews would be great so I don't waste my time looking at crappy places!

My wife's office is right across the highway from Briarcrest complex in Hershey and knows folks who live there. It's not in any sense a "bad area" but it seems the complex is getting a little old and not as well maintained as it could be.
The adjacent Briarcrest shopping center, kind of a proto-neotraditional development, has emptied out (mostly into the authentically traditional Borough of Hummelstown). As far as more shopping than the very little in Hershey, the shortest way from there (20-30 min) to the Harrisburg power center area is to drive past the back of Treeview. It's also 7 to 9 miles from I-81 on your choice of somewhat slow (PA 743) or glacial (PA 39) roads once you get out of Hershey itself.
Derry Twp (Hershey) does have a 1% wage tax still, vs. the 2% in Central Dauphin, but heading to/from I-81 you'd be spending your time in traffic not shopping. Hershey has lots to offer families (especially with a stay-at-home parent) and kids (with a stay-at-home parent), not so much to a single who doesn't work here. (But there are 33,000 jobs vs. the 21,000 residents in Derry Twp.)

Thanks for the advice. I'm really not looking at the Hershey area because it seems out of the way and a little too old for me right now, though if I was going to raise a family soon I would check it out!
My work is right off I-81 at like exit 116 or something, I'm not sure its actually in Pottsville itself, so I think the best would be for me to find somewhere that is very convienent to hop onto 81 drive 45-50 miles and be at work.
Also another random question... here our grocery stores and such have free copies of apartment guides and stuff for rent in the area. Do they do that there as well? I'd like to pick one of those up and check out what they have that may not be on the internet. Thanks again everyone for all your feedback!

You can get an apartment guide in practically any grocery store.
