Default Nice town in Reading vicinity

My husband's job may be bringing him to Reading. What nice towns are in the area within a 15 or 20-minute drive? By nice, I guess, I mean safe, clean, quiet, family with moderately priced stores.

Thanks for any help!

My BIL and family live in Birdsboro, a very nice town with great schools and about 15 or 20 minutes to Reading.

What type of area would you be looking to live in? There are many choices depending on what you like. There are developments, some upscale, some a little less so, if you like rural/farm areas, there's that too. There are towns like Oley, that has a quaint historic downtown area, all within a close proximity to Reading.

Thanks, Dawne and dcris for your replies. Will look into Birdsboro and Oley as well as Douglasville.

I would recommend any of the suggestions given thus far. Also, I would add Wyomissing and Shillington. Both are very nice suburban communities within 10 min. of Reading. Here is some more information on both of those areas:

Exeter Township is a mix of surbuban and some rural. Antietam( Mount Penn) is almost all suburban but school taxes there are very high and the school system is very small. Oley is rural and very historic. Lower Alsace is rural. Cumru, Robeson and Brecknock have mostly rural areas. Places I might avoid would be the Morgantown area. There's a landfill there that can get pretty nasty most of the time. Also Fritz's Island along Route 10 and the Schuylkill and the Titus generating station are areas to avoid for the smell and air. The same goes for Temple and Blandon, only there its mushroom farms.
10 minutes out from Reading is as good as 30. To the west along 422 you have Wernersville, Robesonia, Womelsdorf, all very nice older communities with farmland surrounding although housing develpments spring up everywhere more and more.
