#5 Coolest Town in the USA - in Central PA
America's Coolest Small Towns, Circa 2009 - CBS News
Mentioned in the NEPA sub-forum with #9 on the list, thought it deserved a place in the general PA forum.

They pronounced Juniata Wrong... They said something like Wa-nita. It is pronounced something like June-eee-ata. I plan on going to college there.

Where is Gettysburg? I LOVE Gettysburg, it has a college, historical sites, and historical architecture. (I live in Cumberland County so this is not an ad for Gettysburg)

just curious - I've never been to Huntingdon, but this has sparked my interest. If I were to make a daytrip there, what is there to do? What is so "cool" about it?

The surrounding country IMO is either the #1 or #2 hiking destination in PA. Here is just one of the trails in the area: Standing Stone Trail Highlights
Here is also where NoVA comes to show off their powerboats, despite the tagline here: Raystown Lake, Pennsylvania - In The Heart of Huntingdon County I wouldn't exactly call it a "best kept secret" - it's very loud on summer weekends and has eroded shorelines with no-horsepower-limited boats. Someone in another thread mentioned boat camping on Raystown Lake, I wouldn't try that without earplugs. Fortunately there are many nearby much quieter places.
Here's my #1 favorite state park: http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/statepar...oughcreek.aspx Terrace Mountain blocks the sound coming from the lake.

I went to college at Juniata, and though I think Huntingdon is a good town, there are a number of towns in Pennsylvania relatively comparable in size that I think are much nicer.
