Default Why does Johnstown suck so bad?

I just saw on tv that Murtha earmarked over $200 million over the past few years to build the new John Murtha airport, and it got another $800k in stimulus money despite only serving about 20 passengers a day. I know Murtha is called the King of Pork and Johnstown had to receive several billion dollars in the past decade from him, so how come this town still sucks so bad? I mean, there is poverty, poverty, and more poverty. What are these people doing with all the money he gives them? Murtha's district is one of the biggest recipients of money in the whole country, so why isn't Johnstown doing well? I don't understand what's going on there.

Welfare has never worked and will never work.

Johnstown still has that entitlement syndrome and as long as they do they go nowhere.

I don't like having to go there.

The voters gave him yet another go-around, as if he can fix what he hasn't fixed for 30 years. I'm more worried about those who think he has something to offer.

Empty airport gets $150 mil

A small airport receives millions in taxpayer money despite serving as few as 20 passengers a day. » 3 flights

Johnstown still sucks because Murtha got it right when he said his constituents are a bunch of racist rednecks. Racist rednecks aren't progressive and are afraid of change. They don't know what a proper, livable, and desirable city looks like because their insular, xenophobic tendencies means they never leave Johnstown.

$200 million would have gone a long way to improving train service to johnstown which could only help. johnstown isn't big enough for a vibrant airport and no, pork isn't a good way to build an economy.

Maybe Altoona should just close its airport and go in with Johnstown. Altoona's airport was surely once beautiful ag land, and with enough manure applied, could be again.
