Default Mount Carmel, would you relocate there?

Have been studying the Mount Carmel area. I'm a 40's male, content to work and enjoy a good meal occasionally. Friendly neighbors and a Mayberry type town would be added bonuses. Is Mount Carmel the place?

How tough are the winters? The pros and cons of living in Mount Carmel?

Mount Carmel always gave me a depressing sense of a place that had hit its heyday many years ago and was now struggling to keep its head above water. Crime is relatively low, but from what I understand Sunbury, Shamokin, Mt. Carmel, and nearby Schuylkill County all have issues with drug and alcohol addiction that have led to an air of undesirability. Housing is very cheap in town, and the only work you will find will be blue-collar, namely in one of the trades, light manufacturing, truck driving, or at Wal-Mart.

If you were looking for more of a "Mayberry" atmosphere may I suggest you investigate Lewisburg, Danville, Bloomsburg, or Selinsgrove?

I can't give you advice to live there or not other than that Rt. 61 is one of my favorite riding routes. Every time I am there I ask myself who lives here. Unless you are born and raised there I can't see anyone actually moving there. You must have a special connection to the land but it sure appears a nice peaceful town. If I remember correctly I took this picture there.

Hello- I for sure would live there. Dont buy in Shamokin. Winters are not bad. PA has a cycle. Every so many years there is bad winters. But- MT Carmel is not higher elevations- like the northern tier.

I live in Sunbury. I would move to Mt Carmel today if I could! (BTW- very Polish)

Great info sunsetcliff, why not buy anything in Shamokin? Isn't that where the Wal-mart is (Coal Township?).

Good eating places? What do you see when walking down main street? Anywhere to drink a beer and watch football/sports?
