bldginpa will become famous soon enough
One thing I definitely noticed as being different from New York regarding the buying/selling of a home....no lawyers involved! We closed at the title company's office and it took less than one hour. Very simple and much less expensive. Saved a lot of money by not having to write a fat check to a lawyer who will just be sitting there, nodding his/her head in agreement with all that the title company has to say. The title company prepares all the paperwork for the closing and lawyers have very little to do with the entire process. This is not to say that you cannot have a lawyer present, but it seems unecessary.

Rona is on a distinguished road
Very many thanks for all the helpful replies.
Lots of stuff to think about, but it does seem slightly quicker than in Britain, where we are now.
Thanks also for the various tips - I'm getting quite excited about moving!
