Default Looking for places in central PA

Hi,

here I am still trying to get out of the city! (In Philly now)
I was looking at some places in Edensburg.. Does anyone know much about the area?? Schools, job market?
Also, I have heard mixed reports about Altoona?

I am open to areas, I just want some land and a good school district,

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Michelle

Thumbs up Central PA

Hi Michelle,

I grew up in Central PA and I can't think of anywhere I'd rather live. The schools are pretty good and it seems there's a job here if you're looking for one. Of course it all depend on what field you're talking about.

Altoona is a nice city with friendly people. Like any city these days it has its share of problems with drugs and robberies but I have never felt threatened in any way to go out and about during the day or evening. Plus you can always find something going on if you like festivals and area events. So many of the attractions in the area are either free to attend or very inexpensive. The area is full of state parks and even a few family amusement parks.

I hope you come to the area and judge for yourself,

Patty

I grew up in central PA also...

I don't like it here too much but I live about 30 miles away from ANYTHING!

What type of school are you looking for? Central PA has small, big, catholic...
If you want a small school and want to live near Altoona, Bellwood is suppose to be a very good school...my nephew goes there but he is only 11.

Work can be found...like pattivilla said thought it depends on your field.

There is also State College. The only problem with that town is that PSU is in it. So there are a ton of students around for most of the year. There are quiet parts of the town though...if you are in the right area you wouldn't know it is a college town.

Overall it is a nice area to raise kids and have fun.

Hopefully between this and what PattiVilla wrote it helps...if not ask more

Central PA and the cost of living is much better than Philly is lovely but the job situation is difficult. Don't know what you are looking for but unless you are in a medical profession, it's going to be a tough road. Chester County - west of Philly - is beautiful with great schools and either some professional opportunities or access to roads that will take you to them. Everyone seems to want the bucolic lower-cost-of-living life but it is extremely hard to support yourself.
