Hi
My husband and I are considering moving to PA form Long Island, NY. We reallty would love to get out of NY the cost of living as well as housing is soo expensive. I heard some good things about Stroudsburg and the housing seems very reasonable. Does anyone have any info about this area? and what is the commute to Queens is like? If anyone knows of any other areas in PA that are fairly close to Queens any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Julia

Default To Pa.

Julia,
Moving to the Poconos from NY is a big step. You should visit and stay awhile. Although I hear from others who have vacationed and then decided to buy. It is an entire different feel......once you move to a place full time.
At the minimum you should rent a home for a month or two.......
See how you really feel about a town and area. I see that many people who move from NY do not like the travel back to work in the city, or to see family back home. Some decide to up and leave rather then go through the traffic hassle. Come and stay awhile........see how you feel.
Are you ok with a more quiet place. Where deer roam, your yard and the streets are not lit up on your drives home.
Where the stores might be a bit far.......
Things have changed around here for sure.
Its easily noticed in stores that were once so easy to visit.
Now with crowded aisles, and no one moving to let you pass........
Visit and see how you feel........and if it feels right for your needs.
PS........Our taxes are quite high here and there is additional costs in moving to a "community" such as fees......add that all up also.

Strousburg is just like little NY. Its Long Island 20 years ago. Its a big change. We opted to move from Wantagh to Lancaster. We have much more room here and the area is much nicer. Less traffic, but much bigger house on larger land. Taxes under 4000 avg. Its currently a buyers market so sell high and buy low.

Jobs are ok and you can work in 3 different areas mostly, Lancaster, York and Harrisburg. Pick up the Employment Guide in a local Walmart or Giant it lists all the local jobs in the area and its free!

The cost of living is the EXACT SAME. The only thing is the house you buy is cheaper and more land. But once you are in, its the same as long island.
