Trying to find susquehenna trails, pennsylvania
Please, can anyone help me? In approximately 1969-1971, my best friend and I went to her parents "vacation" house which was very near York, Pennsylvania. Her father would drive us to the beginning of the community and then we would walk the rest of the way. I remember very near the place there was a dairy, an ice cream store, a small local restaurant, and then a long walk up a road with cows on both sides of the road, and then we came to a wooden lodge which had an inground swimming pool and across the road there was a putt-putt course and a play grouind. There were barns spaced here and there. We would walk about a mile on dirt roads through wildflowers, tall grasses, and trees until we came to her one room vacation "cabin". As an adult now I realize that this was a housing community who was selling lots for homes, but some people actually had "vacation or summer homes" there. Some of the houses were really quaint down in a valley-like setting. I remember walking down to a steam and walking in it for hours just to walk and pass the time. There was also a waterfall in this community. There were no street lights and when night hit, believe me you were in total darkness, although the homes were hooked up to electricity but no running water or toilets. I have a small momento from the gift shop that reads "Susquehenna Trails, Pennsylvania", so I am not imagining this place. Now, years later, I am trying to find this place because the friend that I shared my magical summers with died years ago, but I would like to go back to this place just to visit. If anyone had a "best girlfriend" during lazy summer vacation, you will understand why I need to go back there. As I said it was very near York, Penn., but no one that I ask remembers a place with a lodge and putt-putt. To me, growing up in Baltimore city and very rarely going to the country, this was the Garden of Eden to me. It was trees and streams and dirt roads, and frog ponds, and outhouses, and walking at night in pitch-black with flashlights, and horseback riding, and spending time with my best friend who Iknew since first grade and sharing stories sitting by the waterfall. To put the past to rest and to say my final goodbye to my best friend, I need to visit this place. Please, can anyone help me?
