Am I alone in wondering a bit about a relationship with someone who suggests their partner move to another town nearby but not the same town?

I would say State College, but it may be too far from Lewisburg for you.

State College and the Harrisburg area are too far away IMO. If you don't go for Lewisburg, Bloomsburg is your best bet. Milton would be okay too, if you want something very close to Lewisburg.

Many thanks to all who have written with suggestions/opinions.

First, yes. That was a typo on my part. I did mean Williamsport, not Williamsburg. Sorry, hope I didn't offend anyone.

Second, I can understand the concern but let me clarify...the guy I"m seeing works in Lewisburg but lives in the surrounding area. He wants for us to move to the same small town that he lives in but as I've said, we're looking for a town a little bigger, more comparable to the size of town we are living in now in Wisconsin.

As for State College and Harrisburg, I have to agree. I've been to both, like them both, but a little to far from the Lewisburg area.

Thanks for the advice on "river towns." I don't have a row boat so will have to keep that in mind. Thanks also for the suggestion of Milton, I will have to check into that.

Thanks again for all the suggestions. Please keep them coming.

Bloomsburg over Hazleton, or any of the local towns between Bloomsburg & Berwick are good (Mainville, Mifflinville, Orangeville, Almedia, all great little hamlets & close to everything). You can still work via Hazleton or Wilkes-Barre (travel via Rtes 80 & 81). Look at Elysburg if it fits your criteria...smalltown USA in my opinion.

Although the population is only around 6,000 or so, there are local theater groups (Susquehanna Valley Players for one) that your daughter could get involved in. It's located along the Susquehanna River, a beautiful waterway, and there are state parks nearby including one with a swimming lake (R. B. Winter State Park, or "Halfway Dam" as the locals call it). There is also a lot of shopping nearby and Lewisburg itself has a very vital, active and thriving downtown with many community activities throughout the year.

If you have to have something with a larger population, the closest thing to Lewisburg that fits most of your criteria would be Williamsport, about 30 minutes away. I can't speak for their schools other than to say they're not as good as Lewisburg, and the crime is higher there than in Lewisburg and there are drug issues, but I think anywhere these days will have some drug issues.

Best of luck to you!
The Williamsport School District is a good place to get an education.
It is a very diverse district with several different ethnic diversities.
The population of Wmspt is about 40,000. This does not include the neighboring areas of South Williamsport, and Loyalsock Townships.
The Williamsport area is beautiful with the mountains, etc. Our crime issues have gotten a lot better. Our current mayor is very pro-active about crime and it reflects in our police department as well. We have a new program that allows the police to exit their cars and walk on foot in our downtown areas and residential areas. We are a city on the move with many econmic
things that are happening. we are redevelping our downtown, trying to get
major chain stores like Kohl's to locate within it's boundaries. There are to many thungs to list that are happening and all the way here. The gas drilling is one of the biggest just starting in our region.

I agree- Lewisburg since he lives in Lewisburg. If you're concerned about population, the general Milton-Lewisburg-Sunbury-Selinsgrove area, combined, has a lot to offer.

Otherwise, if it doesn't work out, move to State College. It's 45 minutes from Lewisburg (ish), and it has all the stuff you need....great schools, great activities, good shopping, better employment opportunities, etc.
