Relocating from Los Angeles to Northeast Pa
My family will be relocating to Pa this summer from Los Angeles. I would really appreciate your advice....We have three children. We are so sick and tired of the high cost of living, traffic, gangs and everything else that goes with living in the city. We are looking into buying a home in a rural area with a good school district. I have looked online into East Stroudsburg or the Poconos area. I am not sure of any other area. I have family in New York, but want to stay away from the city. We will be visiting Pa this summer. Any advice on resturants and hotels???? And areas to check out?????
Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer my questions

What kind of work do you do? Finding employment can be the hardest part of any move. My friends in E. Stroudsburg commute to NYC for work as there isn't much there for them. However they love their peaceful place and are willing to put up with the commute.

Why not look into the Lehigh Valley area? It's not that much farther to NYC. Anywhere in PA is cheaper than LA.

I would strongly suggest you secure a job before moving. The job market is pretty shaky all over right now. We like the Lehigh Valley but only put our house up for sale after my husband had gotten another job and had been working up here for a few months.

I am stay home with my kids. My husband is a general contractor(construction) and also works in the architectrual field. I will look at the Lehigh Valley. We really just want a more peaceful location. We do a lot of outdoor things..hiking, biking, running....

Where I live Derry Township... Where It’s Just Sweeter! : Derry Township PA seems to be Nirvana for stay at home parent families, with a trail system in town, not too far from a belt of wild lands around the Appalachian Trail, theme park, and 3 separate ways to be in NYC in 3 hours (Turnpikes, I-78, Amtrak) or 2 hr weekend drive to DC. Whether it's "rural" depends on your definition. Although right now things are on pause, historically it's been a strong area for construction work. Developers are going ahead with proposals for 1,500 more homes just south in the separate Londonderry Twp.

Well, congratulations on your decision to move. I just moved 2 years ago from OC and I love it here. There is no work for my son right now (got laid off in October and there is nothing out there), but I have a fixed income as well as my DIL and we make it, no extra money, but it is defintely worth it. I went to SoCal the end of February for two weeks and I could hardly wait til I got home. I honestly don't know how I lived out there for 40+ years. Never will I go back except to see grandkids and daughters. I live in a small town and purchased a large 4 bedroom, 3 bath on more than an acre and my house payment is 40% of what I paid for a 1 bedroom in OC. Have a garden, kids have room to roam, great neighbors and Pittsburgh is close enough if we want it (which so far we haven't except for some specialists appts for DIL). LOVE IT HERE! Good luck on your move.
