Univ of Pittsburgh - Johnstown Campus (UPJ as it's known locally) is a very good college. It is IMO the best branch of the Pitt system. It is definately the largest with the most students outside of the main campus.

There are plenty of things to do at the college - sports programs of all types. It is one of the best Division II wrestling schools. The Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center is on campus and hosts lectures, plays, musicals, dramas and the Symphony Orchestra. There's lots of activities to do around Johnstown as well. Move theater, stores, mall, clubs, etc. You're only 7 miles from downtown Johnstown and about 4 or 5 miles to Windber and it's rec park.

The student union bldg is new. There are new dorms. They're building new student housing across the street from the campus. The campus is set in Richland Twp. It is wooded and very scenic.

It is a very high-calibur school, esp for math & engineering. It offers a very quality education for the money. Here's their link for more info:

I thought UPJ are not an ABET accredited university for engineering. Is that true?

According to their page their engineering programs are technologies (EET, CET, MET) which are NOT the same as engineering. I don't know if that is what you would be going for but imo you are MUCH better off going to a university/college that has an ABET accredied program and an actual engineering program.

I went to school there and grew up in Johnstown. It is a very good school with a beautiful, wooded campus. It snows a lot in the winter though so you'd have to be ok with that. Johnstown itself doesn't have a ton of nightlife, but I don't know what kind of entertainment would be 'enough' for you. There are plenty of little bars around, mostly full of local hillbillies and racist, ignorant, conservatives. I don't live there now, but everytime I go there to visit my parents, I swear I can't be in a bar for more than 10 minutes without hearing someone blurt out a loud obnoxious 'black' joke and then proceed to talk about guns or trucks. A few cool people can be found though, and there will be plenty of students to befriend on campus from places other than Johnstown. I would check out the Pitt main campus in Pittsburgh if you can get in. Pittsburgh is much larger and offers far more opportunity for a social life and exposure to different ideas/worldviews.
