Actually, State College and Central PA (Centre County, that is), is one of the wealthiest parts of the state! Don't believe me, look it up! Average income in Centre County is about $60k and average home in SC is about $225K!!!

Right now taxes from the richest areas of the state (Philly, Pittsburgh, ABE) go towards supporting the poorer rural areas. This same dynamic plays out nationally, where the richer "blue" states subsidize the poorer "red" states.

What Philadelphia *should* do is form some sort of city-state comprised of the areas in the immediate vicinity of Philadelphia, Wilmington, and Camden. These geographically adjacent metro areas could best govern themselves as one entity with similar interests.

I think secession is a fine idea. Not different parts within Pennsylvania seceding from one another, although that very well may happen in the future based on the varying cultural regions within PA, but from the U.S. The Federal government has overstepped it's constitutional bounds and it's just one power grab after another. Unfortunately, it would seem that we get the government we deserve, as most folks are too apathetic to vote or they're caught in this two party lie (the two sides of the same coin are still the same coin).

However, for PA to secede from the Union, many things would have to change within PA. Our style of governance and taxation would have to be completely overhauled. In fact, our lawmakers would have to change too, as they all suck at the teat of the almighty federal dollar. They'll never secede from the Union, regardless of what those criminals in Washington do. Your best chance at leaving the U.S. through secession is Vermont or Alaska, with Montana and Hawaii as close seconds.

I still would pay less for my kid as an out of state student at PSU than I do as an in state student at a MD public university.

These states are all awesome!
Vermont or Alaska, with Montana and Hawaii
I'd love to live in any of them, especially either Montana or Hawaii...wouldn't mind a Succession then - outdoor paradises!

OMG I can see that, certainly. (No way!)

I'm not going to address the academic standards issue, but have you ever attended a football game at an Ivy League University? It's just for fun. The way college sports were intended to be. Same for preppy football.

IVY leagues blow, in more ways than one! Can you say lame?! PSU is in a league of it's own and hopefully it never changes.
