I live in SW central PA (Cambria County) and may be able to find information for you, with a little more info. What areas of Western PA are you looking for...close to Pittsburgh or Erie or somewhere in between? What price range do you consider affordable? Will you need info about the local school districts and job markets? Once I know some of the above, I could help narrow the field

Mams1559 - hello
Hi, my family will be leaving SoCal for PA in two months or so, we have been looking at several homes in Cambria County as that is where I lived in the 1970s. There are houses in Northern Cambria, Patton and Hastings (a couple in Johnstown also) that we are considering. Any areas of Johnstown that I should be aware of, i.e. high crime, drugs, etc? Thanks for your help. I am going to be visiting there either the last week of this month or the first of next, any chance we could meet for a cuppa coffee so that I can pick your brain LOL.

Hello, mcorrales..
Well, as for within the city limits you'll want to avoid the following neighborhoods: Prospect, Oakhurst, Kernville (turning mostly commercial now). Unfortunately, those areas have the most problems with crime & drugs. Hornerstown has some good blocks, some not so good. Moxham is still quiet and not may problems. Roxbury, Eighth Ward, Morrellville are nice neighborhoods, too. The more popular areas for folks are the boros and twps surrounding the city.
As you may know, N. Cambria, Patton and Hastings are well north of Jtwn and still quiet and small town charm but you'd have to drive to most amenities. But they equidistant from both Johnstown & Altoona.
Send me a private message and we'll compare schedules to see what additional help I can be during your visit.

Hi, good schools are a priority and a safe neighborhood, a good hospital system as my husband is a cat scan tech, price range no more than 250. I would like some shopping, esp. walmart and supermarkets. Those are my only criteria, thanks!

Then I would suggest Richland twp. in Cambria County, myself. It is a "suburb" of Johnstown. It has a really good school district and it's a very safe area. It has become a good center for commercial business, grocery stores, etc. It has a large mall with sears, penneys, bon-ton & boscovs. It has a super walmart (one of the largest in the state) with a whole plaza of other shops. Homes range from $80,000 to well over $250,000, but there are many within your range. Also, from Richland you are about 10 mi. each way to Conemaugh Memorial Med. Ctr., the main hospital in Johnstown ( www.conemaugh.org) and Windber Medical Center & Research Institute in Windber, a good hospital with an excellent reputation for quality care. Also, there is a free standing MRI center right in Richland Twp. on Scalp Ave (Laurel Highlands MRI). I'm sure he'd be able to find work within his field.
