Which one to chose Greensburg or Jeannette.....
I have looked around in the forums and havent found what I am looking for. So hopefully someone can help me. My husband has gotten a job in Delmont so we are moving in a coulple of weeks from AR. I am trying to decide on which towns I would like to move our three kids and two dogs to. It is a toss up between Greensburg and Jeannette. We have a 7th grader and a 9th grader. My ninth grader is big on volleyball and softball, so either school needs to have those two sports. And my kids are in all AP classes here so we would like them to stay in those type of classes if possible.I thought about these two towns because we dont want to be in a town that is less than ten thousand and have at least some stores. I have never been this far northeast so I don't even know what these towns are like. So what I am asking which one is safer, cleaner, friendlier, and better schools. My husband will be gone alot so I don't want a town that I will be scared in. And also which town would have the best opp. for us to find a rent house with a yard. Thank you for the help

Greensburg is much nicer than Jeanette - its a no brainer.
Also consider North Huntingdon Township near Irwin and also Murrysville.

Don't move to jeanette!!! especially near downtown, high crime, drugs... just not a desirable area.
Greensburg is great, especially the Hempfield school district. I love greensburg, been here since 2001 when I started college and never left.

I grew up around that area in Western PA. Greensburg is defintly nicer than Jeanette. You might also consider Ligonier. It's close to Greensburg and really nice.

What about some areas around greensburg? Murrysville has Franklin Regional sd, which is very good. There is also Penn-Trafford, Norwin, and Hempfield. All very school school districts in nice areas. If you are really into sports, then Jeannette is a good sd for you. It isn't a terrible school, but it isn't as good as the others around. It is very small, but has a lot of school spirit and is very good at sports. It often ignores the academic side of school for athletics. Greensburg-Salem is a decent school also.
I don't think town size means much. Most of these places are townships, not towns anyway. If you move into Trafford or Murrysville, I'm sure that the population isn't high, but that doesn't mean you are out in the woods miles and miles from anyone else. These are typical suburban communities. Within mins you could be near all the shopping and stores in Greensburg along rt.30 or drive to monroeville, which has monroeville mall and a lot of shopping too. Also, PA doesn't tax clothing, which is sweet. You won't be lacking for places to shop around where you are planning to move...they will just be a 10 min drive or so, nothing terrible.
One thing to consider, since someone mentioned north hundington. Hempfield is a good school district, but freakin' huge! it is probably one of the top 3 largest high schools in the pittsburgh area, and many of the negative complaints are about the size and how it has gotten too big.
Also, have you looked at other areas in the region? Butler County is very nice and growing A LOT. You could move into Cranberry or Mars and be in excellent school districts and very close to shopping.
Also, I'd check out Washington County, especially Canonsburg and, if you can afford it, Peters Twp. Less shopping there, but very good schools and things can get very expensive with homes, especially in Peters Twp.

I have no direct knowledge but three weeks ago we visited our 25 year old daughter living in Latrobe. She has made it her home and her town and absolutely loves it. Says it crime free, inexpensive to live, and folks are really nice.
Just my 2 cents.
