Default Not Philly with a kid

If you want to live in suburbs around Philly, that's ok. Please don't live in Philly with a child. The public schools are horrible, and the crime rate-if you check statistics, is over the top. Some parts of Bensalem are nice. Elkins Park and Cheltenham are nice, but I think a little expensive.

another good choice would be mongomery county near the king of prussia area. Lots of businesses in that area. the schools are decent and the housing isn't to expensive and neither are the taxes. Are you looking to rent or buy something, do you have a car or will you rely on public transportation?

Are you sure about that? I'm fairly certain the direct opposite is true...

I'd recommend the suburbs of Philadelphia. You'll have fairly easy access to jobs in and out of the city, low crime, and (depending on where you live) affordable rent. I presume, as a 21-year-old single mom, you'll be renting an apartment?

true but unless you move to philly it's one of the largest areas for employment, between KoP, great valley and even norristown and plymouth meeting. renting isn't cheap but it's alot nicer than what you might find in delaware cty. all depends on how mush she wants to spend and whats her transportation.

Default Try Lansdowne

Chantailb,
Consider Lansdowne in Delaware county as a good and affordable location. It's a nice old neighborhood close to Philadelphia with great public transportation. However once your child approaches school age I woudl consider moving across the line into the nicer areas of Upper Darby Township such as Drexel Park, Drexel Gardens, Drexel Hill. The reason is that the public schools of Upper Darby Township are very good and Lansdowne not so good.
