Default Need to find a conservative town near Philly

If that's even possible. We have to get out of south jersey but still need to be within a decent commute to philly. I understand that there are a lot of conservative towns in PA, but are there any that do not require a 2-3 hour drive to philly everyday? Could somewhere in Deleware be a possibility too?

Lancaster County is about as conservative as one can get and some do commute. (I know someone who commutes from Elizabethtown to KoP, not what I would choose but it's possible.) Amtrak is a possibility too to Center City - unless you're one of those conservatives who hate Amtrak.

The Philly suburbs aren't conservative but aren't liberal either. Maybe more moderate republican/ centrist/ blue collar/ blue dog democrat? Either way, far right or far left candidates don't fare too well, the voters focus on issues and are more likely to vote for the candidate rather than just pull a party lever without much thought. It's a good area to be in just for that reason.
Just remember Pa is Pa and we like it that way.

I would say no on Delaware. Eastern PA has moved to the Democrat side for the most part, so you might want to look at Lancaster County. However, most of the new Democrats in the suburbs of Philly are former Republicans. They are socially liberal/economically conservative...the opposite of the rest of the state. Most of Pennsylvania is economically liberal, but very conservative on social issues. PA was rated the no.1 Pro-Life state for 2009. We also have liquor laws from the 1920s, and gay marriage would never fly here. Even though the Philly 'burbs are more socially liberal than most of PA, you could find a place to live in Bucks or Montgomery County and fit in well. Most are not exactly happy right now with Obama and the stimulus.

Thanks for the replies! I think Montgomery or Bucks may be my best bet. Although Bucks county still it quite a hike for me. If you can suggest specific cities that would be great too. I need to leave Jersey because this state has gone so far off into left field I can't breath. What they don't seem to understand is, if you want all these social programs someone has to pay for it. Many, like myself, cannot sustain this free for all with our taxes. I need a reasonable cost of living with others that feel the way I do. I cannot afford anything more than $250-300K in housing and taxes below 4K. To give you an idea, I pay $5400 a year now in property taxes and Camden is my border. (No, really, Camden line goes through my back yard and I pay that much!!) I'm ready to pull my hair out!

Thanks again!!

ACtually I'd say Chester is your best bet, the "city liberals" seem to prefer Montco and Bucks. Chester (county not city)is more fiscally conservative (hence the lower taxes) and socially moderate.

The Main Line seems to have a lot of "limousine liberals."
