Anyone here from Trevorton or Shamokin?
I went to Line Mountain for elementary and junior high school then to Our Lady of Lourdes in Shamokin for high school. Looking for some people I might know from either of these towns/schools. I graduated high school in 1979 and moved to the Harrisburg area in 1980. I've been in Carlisle (about 30 minutes south of Harrisburg) since 1990.
I want to make connections with people from Trevorton in particular as that is where I grew up. I still have family there. My maiden name is Schwartz and I have an aunt whose last name is Bowers (the only one left on my father's side of the family). My mom has 2 sisters still alive but I wasn't very close to her side of the family.
Last year around this time Trevorton had a fire that claimed 3 (maybe more) people's lives. The Vottero woman was one of my mom's sisters.
Would love to reestablish contact with family/friends.

Deb, that was such a devastating fire. I think there were about five people who died. The Rubendall family escaped the fire, fortunately. It was the man's mother who was shot in a car a few years ago by her ex-husband, who also shot himself but survived all night and is now on trial for her murder. I knew that family from our years of owning a campground where they and some of their relatives camped. Then the tragedy of the fire was compounded by the boyfriend of one of the victims showing up drunk at the funeral, being arrested, and then committing suicide in the county jail.
I hope you're able to make connections with some people. Good luck!

I heard about the fire down here on the radio and started an e-mail subscription to the Daily-Item. I read of the fire and that devastion that man went thru and committed suicide over.
The Voterro woman and her husband (he passed on in about 89) used to own the building. I don't know when she sold it. Did they ever find out what caused the fire?

I can't remember what the cause was or if they did indeed say what it was. Something on the back porch sticks in my mind, but it may also be that it burned so completely that there wasn't enough left to determine what caused it. I'm pretty sure it was not arson or anything deliberate or careless, like kids playing with matches.

Ray S,
The Schwartz family from coal street were my aunt and uncle. Helen and Albert. Albert was my dad's brother. My dad was Peter lived on Mountain Street (other end of town). Glad someone remembers my family. I get back about 2 times a year to put flowers on my parents grave and I don't know anyone anymore in town.
Hope to talk again.

Anyone from Trevorton, Shamokin? My mother was Mary Lukumski, her other sister was Catherine and a brother Franz, and her father was Joseph. He had a lumber business called East End Lumber Co. in the 40's thru 60's. I'm trying to find out if the last of my mother's sister's is still living. Her married name is Regina Anonia (Lukumski) at 201 E. Shamokin st. Trevorton. I call but get no answer. I currently live in Florida. Any help would be greatly appeciated. Thank you.Richard Zollner...ROBOUSA1@AOL.COM

Vottero
Deb,
The Vottero woman in the fire was my Aunt Cecelia. I would like to develop her genealogy, if possible. Do you have anything available.
