Default Race relations in Sayre

I was recently in Sayre for a job interview & noticed that I only saw 2 other minorities the entire day I was there. Obviously the town is predominately white, but what is the overall feeling of the town? If I were to move there, how would I be treated?

The several confederate flags I saw during the day were also disconcerting.

Thanks for your help.

Well you might have better luck on the Pennsylvania general forum. Sayre isn't considered Northeast Pa. I used to deliver blood via (Red Cross) to Robert Packard Hospital there on a regular basis though. I can tell you it is a typical Pa. small, white, town on the NY state border. The closest decent sized city would be Binghamtom or Elmira NY. I can't tell you though if the town is excepting of minorities, I don't know enough about it.

Well, according to Newswatch 16, NE PA extends from here to the Ohio border!

A lot of folks around Sayre commute to Ithaca, NY - you could reverse that, if you're interested in a more liberal, historically tolerant community. Elmira too will have more racial diversity, although not so much among the professional classes (at least those not affiliated with the prisons).

I belong to the U.U. congregation is Athens, contiguous with Sayre. We enjoy the company of an interracial couple who don't seem to have any problems in the community
