Noticed your request about corner shops and pizza in the Moxham area of Johnstown,Pa. Well, if you haven't visited in the past 10 yrs you may not recognize parts of Moxham. I've returned to Johnstown about 5 times a year for the past 20 yrs and have watched the area change. I'm very familiar with the area as I'm a former student from Bishop McCort and would drive down thru Moxham all of the time. The area is not what it was. Changes have taken place some good and some bad. I'm sure many of the changes have happened because of the tough economic times, as well as development. To my knowledge, those small pizza shops that were in MOxham are no longer there. I was looking recently and had to drive as far as Geistown(Richland) where the famouse Ann's Pizza is still going strong.

Default Thanks

Thanks for your answers. Wonder if zoning still allows it. There were a couple of spots that I would love to reopen. I will be checking that out when I get there. Any other info you have about Jtown today would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I saw your comments on my photo album so I decided to see where your inquiries were.

As for the specific question about Moxham... yes, there were several corner stores open in the neighborhood. I used to frequent Heck's myself (corner of Coleman & Bond). The building is there but sadly, the business closed years ago. The Linden Avenue store is still open. That's the last remaining one, I'm afraid.

The Sheetz that was on the corner of Village and Coleman has now moved to Ohio and Central and takes up nearly an entire block. Naples Pizza, that used to be housed in a historic house on Ohio and Coleman is closed. Dominos is in a 3-store building just across Coleman on Ohio, which is why Naples is now closed. Whitfield's Market (it was newer -- opened in the mid 80's) on the corner of Park and Ohio closed and is now the new home of Gittler's Pet Store, Aquarium and Aviary. On the corner of Village and Grove is now the Village Street Café .. coffee house with live music and an antiques store.

There are many opportunities for corner stores, if you're interested.
