PA Ski Vacation Suggestions?
I am thinking of planning a surprise ski vacation in Feb. for my husband. I would say we are both beginner/intermediate. I am looking for a resort or a nice hotel close to skiing. Also, we will be there for about 5 days and I am looking for a place that is not super crowded with kids. Any suggestions?? Thanks!

I can't think of any that will not have children.......
But, you may like the lodge at The Chateu at Camelback quite nice with pretty restaurants and two story rooms. The ski lodge is behind it and it has for all levels.
There is Jack Frost/Big Boulder area.......and they have condos/townhomes.
Also Shawnee. You can stay at the Shawnee lodge and from there use their skiing mountain.
Of the three........I'd either do Camelback or Shawnee. Look them up online and see what suits you.
Can't think of anything kidless though........

You can do what we do every February and go to Ski Denton in the North Central mountains. We always stay in Wellsboro, which is a one of a kind, quaint, Victorian community about 25 miles from the ski resort. Skiing is inexpensive there, it is the only ski resort in PA that is run by the PA Park system.

To be accurate, the state does not operate it, they lease the land to a private operator to run as a ski hill. It is the only downhill ski hill on PA State Park land.
Like a mini version of what happens out West where ski areas lease land in National Forests.

..................anyway.......the skiing is still some of the most affordable around. There is another resort close to Wellsboro called Sawmill.

I haven't skied in a while, so I'm not going to recommend any particular area (although we always skied at Elk Mountain in Union Dale, and enjoyed it a lot)...but I would think that planning your trip from Monday-Friday would eliminate a lot of school-age kids. Do NOT go over Presidents' Weekend though. There will be TONS of people taking advantage of the long weekend.
