Default 1 Night In Harrisburg - What To Do, Where To Go, What To Eat?

Howdy,

I'm coming up next week for one night in Harrisburg.

As I have zero expectations, I'm really excited about it.

So some questions:

Where should I spend the night?

Where should I go eat?

Where should I go drink?

I'm a family guy, but I like to get my drink on when I have no responsibilities and am known to do a pretty good Neil Diamond impersonation while singing karaoke to "I Am, I Said".

Any advice is appreciated.

(I'm also spending one night in Scranton and have already posted this request on the NEPA area if you think you're seeing double.)

Thanks!

Stay downtown at the Harrisburg Hilton or Crowne Plaza..if you are on a budget the Riverfront Comfort Inn is okay but a little further from downtown.

Downtown has a ton of choices for eating out. Take a walk up 2nd street. Spice is a popular choice, at 2nd and Locust. Also on Locust street right around the corner from 2nd is Scott's Grille (steaks and seafood), McGraths (Irish Pub) and Carley's Restaurant and Piano Bar (Italian). If you want a little more upscale, try Cafe Fresco or Stock's on 2nd. Further up 2nd street just past State street is the popular Firehouse restaurant. The only restaurants I would stay away from are Tom Sawyer Cantina and The Quarter, terrible food and service at both.

In terms of drinking, 2nd street is where you will find most of that as well. It's mostly a younger crowd, but Stocks on 2nd, the Brickhaus, Zembies cater to a bit older of a crowd. Cafe Freso (and Level 2 above it) and Privado are some more upscale choices, but they have more of a "club" type feel. The bar at Carley's is a good choice to drink as well. If you want something a bit more off the beaten path, try Shady McGrady's at the corner of 2nd and Verbeke. They have the best beer selection in the city, but it's a bit of a walk from downtown. Also outside downtown is the Stage On Herr at the corner of Susquehanna and Herr streets, if you are feeling artsy. They have a full bar and musicians at night.

Astro, here are some suggestions for eating.
Arepa City on 2nd street has really good food, it's venezualean food, and an entree can run from 9 - 14 dollars. Ive really enjoyed it. Arepa City - Harrisburg, PA
Broad Street Market- on north 3rd & Verbeke street, it's a farmers market that has all sorts of eateries under one roof. Chinese, Thai, Indian, Caribbean, etc. It has an Amish stand, bielers Poultry that is amazing! Broad Street Market - Harrisburg, PA
Also nearby is Tres hermanos Mexican in Steelton, PA. (a short drive) It has some great food & soups. Tres Hermanos Taqueria - Steelton, PA

I like Mcgrath's but it's not terribly Irish, which is good, they have a great selection of local micros if you like that sort of thing.

Almost forgot about Arepa City... great little unique place. Broad Street Market is a good recommendation but unfortunately they close at 5PM, so not a good option if the OP is arriving later in the evening.

For a cool place to hang out and drink coffee or read a book, try the new Midtown Scholar Bookstore and Cafe on 3rd and Verbeke (across from Broad Street Market) or Cafe Di Luna on 3rd between Boas and Herr

I should throw in a nod for Mangua Qui and Suba Tapas Bar on North street.

I hope you aren't talking about 2nd street pizza...worst pizza in the city IMO. They stay in business because they are right outside of several night clubs. Mercados, Mamas and Sorrentos are all much better
