I am from NJ and we were looking at a home in Summit Ridge which is a new development by Grant Homes. It is in Mahoning Twp/Lehighton. Is this a nice place to live? I noticed some run down buildings in the area. Is there much crime? How are property values holding up? How are the schools?

Does this area flood at all?

Is it hard to get a job? My degree is in Biochemistry. My daughter is a home health aide and is going to college.

What are good places to shop?

Thank you for any help.

Thanks to toobusytohelp for how to post.

Since I own a Grant built home, I can say that they do build a great, solid home.
I have pictures of how the home proceeded along.........quite amazing.

I don't know the exact location but as far as Mahoning/Lehighton go it is very isolated in that area. Your best bet for a job would be in the Allentown area and you'd most likely take that turnpike near you.
I have not heard of flooding in that area.
Stores are few and far between there and you can see that if you google the
town.
Country Junction is rebuilding and is due to open in April.......a fun place to visit.
I head to the Crystal Tree Farm for my Christmas Tree, at Mahoning........
The land is vast and much is farmed.
The closest hospitals would be small ones in Hometown, Hazelton, or
Palmerton. The largest hospitals are in Allentown itself.

Summering gave good information. I'm glad to hear that Country Junction is opening again soon. What a tragedy their fire was.

There's also a hospital in Lehighton.

A place to check out for recreation is the Beltzville Lake/Dam - for boating, fishing and swimming in the warmer months. Not sure if they allow ice fishing in the winter or not.

You're also close to lovely historic Jim Thorpe with all of its activities and quaint shops.

I did get to see Summit Ridge........It is very close to my favorite Christmas Tree Farm down that way.

I did notice you are very close to Lehighton and to that hospital there. However, now that I know the exact location I can't imagine getting into Allentown without a 45 min. drive. Which for PA is not all that bad really.

It certainly sits up enough that there should be zero flooding.

I really love the quality of a Grant built home so I'm sure all the homes will be nice.

Its a quiet area, but there is plenty of things to do around that way........and a wonderful shopping trip would be heading off and about in Whitehall.

I live in Mahoning Valley, it is a beautiful, peaceful area. I have an old farm house on several acres. I work in the lehgih valley, so I drive about 45 minutes each way to work. The commute is worth it, when I get home, I can sit on the porch/deck and listen to wildlife, the trickle of the creek on the property and relax. Taxes and home prices are reasonable and it is a very nice, small town feel place to reside.
