Default Why do you guys always drive in the left lane (at lesat while on Rt. 55 in South Jersey)

I don't mean to offend, but really. Why is it ALWAYS one of you guys? Is the traffic pattern different or something else?

You mean Pennsylvanians? All of us? I suppose "we" think you are driving too slow.

Not all of you, just the ones slowly driving in the left lane while in NJ.

And we laugh here in PA about how people from NY and NJ don't seem to know what the right lane is for. "You" are always in the left lane here too. So maybe we're just paying you back!

I was going to say the same thing but you beat me to it. I think it's that the NY and NY drivers will only get out of the left lane when they want to. They won't just get out of the left lane because someone behind them is trying to pass them.

People seem to generally drive slowly on Route 55. I guess it has a higher than average police presence.

Hahaha, so I guess the real answer to this is, that none of us know what lane to drive in while in another state

I grew up in PA and now I live in NJ, so I drive the left lane or the right lane depending on whether it is an odd or even numbered day.

NY is the only place I know where driving on the right and passing on the left is a foreign concept which new drivers are never taught. Whenever I see someone stuck in the passing lane i just assume they learned to drive in NY.

Nah, this isn't just confined to NY. I've seen it in pretty much every state I've ever been through.

What I have noticed, though, is that it seems to happen more in metro areas. People don't want to have to deal with the oncoming ramp traffic so move over to the left and generally stay there until the traffic thins out.
