Question Coatesville crime + nearby towns?

Does anyone know if the Coatsville crime reaches out to surrounding towns like Parkesburg or Downingtown? This is in Chester County.. Thanks

No....Coatesville is an anomoly. Parkesburg is up
and coming and D-town is a mix of working class
and new McBourgeous...might be offensive but not
criminally inclined. The City of Coatesville is every bit
as frightening as N. Philly at night. I would never let
my wife drive through it, alone.
As soon as you get about a mile out its OK, though.
the surrounding areas range from OK to quite affluent.

I would agree with koZmic ninja. Not sure if it's as bad as North Philly but it's amazing how bad it's reputation is compared to the neighboring towns.

Parkesburg is a world away and really where amish country begins, although Morgantown is a threshold to amish country as well. But I have heard that the Parkesburg Wal Mart gets alot of shoplifters being right on Route 30. Coatesville was once a nice town but has really been run down by its inhabitants. Norristown, Reading, Allentown, Lancaster, all have the same problem to some degree or another.

I was on a committe that actively fought bad development in
the Parkesburg / Sadsbury area. The WAL*MART was the start
of the dawnfall of that area. Anyone who needs proof of what
WAL*MART does to an area need only look at the RT.30 / Rt.10
WAL*MART. It forced the closing of two family food stores and
good, old hardware stores in Sadsbury and Parkesburg. There were
shootings and fighting in the perking lot all night long.....as a result
there was a 'TAx' proposed to the business's in PArkesburg to cover
the extra police needed just for the WAL*MART. Obviously this
went over well with the shop owners who had been there 20 years
and never needed police once.
Still...the Coatesville /WAL*MART stuff sort of ends in their parking
lot. Parkesburg is up and coming. Sadsbury is making gains in
fighting the Condo / section-8 stuff that thier previous $upervisors
took...errrrr, were 'encouraged' by developer$ to change zoning for,
so it still remains a nice area for a moment. As an example, we
watched the framing of townhouses on Rt.30 blow down in a
windstorm and be slapped back up in two days. Certification...ha ha ha ...

Southernly toward Kennett has some nice, rural areas left too....
What you said on Norristown and Reading....Unliveable if you have any
quality of life standards at all....Allentown is trying, some OK stuff..
In a transitional period. Lancaster has some very nice areas but it
seems the bad stuff is really getting a foothold, especially in the city.
A shame because some parts of the downtown are very quaint.

I graduated from Coatesville HS 20 years ago. The city is only 1 or 2 square miles yet the crime rate is really bad.....lots of drugs and a LOT of section 8 housing. It has changed drastically since I was a kid, so run down...its really sad. I lived in Morgantown for a few years, that area as well as Honey Brook is definately the edge of Amish Country.

Its a shame because the Lukens / Steel era of
Coatesville with the layout of the town and the
fabulous architecture of some of the more established
housing could have made it one of the nicer examples
of a small PA town. Nice by anyones standards.
The 'Hill' housing project was the final nail in the coffin
of Coatesville.

First of all the only reason Parkesburg is growing like crazy right now is because of the Walmart/Home Depot shopping center. People are moving to Coatesville and out to Parkesburg because now they won't have to travel to Exton/Downingtown to shop all the time. Those old run down super markets were dragging the city down. Times are changing and things are improving. The bypass brings the people out and the Walmart let them know how far to go. You can thank the Walmart for saving Coatesville and Parkesburg. If the shopping center was 1 exit up on the bypass (Airport Rd) Parkesburg would still be a ghost town like Gap is now.

Second, Coatesville is a huge area. The city is like any city, it has good and bad areas, nothing like North Philly though, lol. Anyways the city is only a tiny section of Coatesville. Coatesville has prime land outside of the city. Its all country out there with only Amish Farms to deal with. Its close to Exton and West Chester, 1 hour from the city and 2 min from the "evil" Wal-mart Home Depot shopping center. Areas like East Fallowfield, West Caln, Valley are all great townships within Coatesville and are all about a 10-15 min drive from the outskirts of the city.
