Are you sure Lewisburg blows away Jim Thorpe? Lewisburg looks pretty flat to me, at least based on your pictures; I didn't see any hills or mountains.

Just curious-- what camera are you using for your photo tours? do you like it?

I'll agree that I was disappointed by the topography in Lewisburg; it sat in a fertile river valley that was mostly flat, but there are some hills and mountains that rise to the north and west once you get out of town. Nevertheless, Lewisburg wins, in my opinion, simply because it had more "stuff" to see. I only captured 105 images of a town that should have taken 1,000 to cover appropriately. Lewisburg is the first photo tour town that I took as a true "tourist," as I've been to all of the other places in the past. I've only been to Stroudsburg once before with my ex-boyfriend (just so he could show me the main drag of his hometown), but I'm really looking forward to snapping that town soon as well.

I'm using a Kodak EasyShare CX7300, which is a lower-end digitial camera my parents purchased for me from Wal-Mart for either Christmas or my birthday a few years back, but it has served me rather well thus far. It eats batteries though, which is my only complaint (starting each tour off with a $6 battery package purchase starts to add up when you're a struggling college student!)

Since I'm in Greentown (and I finally figured out my digital camera and how to post photo's!), I will volunteer to take some photos of Greentown/Newfoundland/Hamlin area and post them in the next few days. That way SWB won't have to waste gas driving all the way down here. I can't think of anyone I know in the Hideout, so I most likely won't be able to do anything inside there. Is there anything in particular that you are interested in seeing?? I am very close to Tanglwood and Lake Wallenpaupack also.

SWB: I also use a Kodak Easyshare. Try the rechargeable batteries. On our recent trip to Disney, I used the same set of AA rechargeables for the whole week (close to 500 pictures). The battery pack that came with my camera (mine came with the printer dock, which was also suppose to recharge the battery) didn't last very long.

Thanks for that tip! I was looking at some of those rechargeable packs at Target last week, but I decided to hold off on it. In the long run, it would probably most certainly pay for itself.

P.S. I'm looking forward to your photos of Hamlin/Greentown/Newfoundland. I'm better at shooting small towns and cities than I am of rural areas, so I'm actually glad you volunteered. Thank you!

Great Job!!!

Thanks for the memories even though it has changed a lot since I lived there. I could tell you quite a bit about some of those photos. A lot of businesses have changed since when I grew up there. The few that are the same are Donehowers, Stamms, The Lewisburg Hotel ( which was a dump at one time) and The Mensch Agency.

The Bull Run Inn used to be a Western Auto which was attached to an A&P. The '72 flood destroyed both businesses. A fellow student with whom I graduated bought the building shortly after and remodeled it. Right across the street was the Campus Bowing Alley which burned in '71. Bull Run used to actually flow underneath it. The photo you have of Bull Run is where the bowling alley once was.

As a matter of fact, you have a photo of one the homes I used to live in! (The third one from the bottom-the red brick place)

As nice as the pictures are, it's even nicer in person!

If you ever get the chance, go see a show at the Campus theater -- it's a great example of restoration.
I worked at the Campus Theatre in the late '60s. Harold Steiffel was a fantastic person. I can still see him leaning on the parking meter in front of the theater and waving at people when they drove by. They have a star embedded in the sidewalk where he used to stand.
