Duderino:

Now before you disagree with me I want to point out something I saw on the "Chester County rudeness" post where someone said they agreed that rudeness was a national trend. That someone was Duderino! Does that mean you disagree with me here yet agree that rudeness is a problem in the country as a whole. Don't you see my complaint WAS about rudeness.

She said I don't think you're going to like it. I saw the cup half full, I would make it work. The second week we were here we were at a Boyertown High School girls basketball game. A women sitting next to us in the stands who's daughter was playing with our daughter said she had been living here for about 1-2 years and struggled to make freinds. We, my wife and I, were surprised she was so honest with us but thought that was just her and we would make it work and be accepted. One of the things we tried to standoffish neighbors was buy inexpensive gifts for them as an excuse to get to know them. It didn't work. Just 2 weeks ago at a baseball game my son was playing in I approached another man seated a few feet away to make small talk, his short "yes" or "no" or "right" answers told me to keep my distance. When I had my car fixed at a dealership and the mechanic ran me to my house while my car was being fixed I asked him about the area. He said people are born here, raised here and aren't very welcoming to outsiders, he said that's unfortunate but that's the way it is. He felt sorry for anybody who moved here. Now, is all this, just MY perception, or reality?

I think that is the Montgomery-Berks County attitude in general. There are a lot of ignorant, unfriendly people there. I would still move to the outskirst of the area. You can find decent things to do. It is a great halfway point between Philadelphia and The Lehigh Valley.

I have been working my can off on the computer looking for a place to move to from NJ,and i have a friend in Broomall helping me with towns,Pottstown came up as a very nice, quaint town, and the prices are reasonable.

The cancer thing has me wondering, has anyone been able to locate any reports, etc to support any of this info?

After Ciba Gigy( spelling?) ,it makes me wonder, but i would like to myself look deeper into this, since the town seems so nice.

Can anyone tell me are there certain "sections" to avoid?

Pottstown is home to the Hill School, one of the most prestigious private schools in the country. Donald Trump had at least one child enrolled.
OK, I used to live about 12 miles south of Pottstown off of Rt 100 in Upper Uwchland Twp. The reason I know its twelve miles is I had my plane hangered at Pottstown Municipal Airport (N47) and drove there a lot. Pottstown has a working class feel and there is some blight but there are nice areas in and around Pottstown Borough. If it were me, I'd look a little bit south on Rt. 100 and get something in Chester County.

I met Trump and his entourage at Pottstown Muni airport one day when he came in his helicopter to pick up his son who was attending the Hill School. I happened to be cleaning my plane that day so met "the Donald" in jeans and an old sweatshirt. It was pretty funny. He had two, utterly captivating young ladies with him, neither of which was his wife.

We lived in Pottstown (East Coventry, right across the bridge in CHester County) and I HATED it. We bought there b/c the prices were great but once we started living there it was awful. We relocated with hubby's job b/c of it. Seemed like a good way out!

Default pottstown (aka

was born in pottstown and returned to live there for a few years after high school. everything you've read above is all true. including the attitudes of those who despise the place... it's almost suffocating. fortunately, not everyone who lives in pottstown or has been there hates it. yes there are good spots and bad spots. like for instance... definitely stay away from Beech St. The Hill School is only a few blocks away, but that doesn't stop the ignorant acts of wrecklessness and violence. I used to wake up - on average, about 3 times a month - to loud arguments in the street by my house or gunshots in the middle of the night. Some parts of Pottstown can be ugly.
There are, however, nice places that seem to be a whole different world. My grandparents live in Limerick, have lived their all their married lives and have never thought the need to move. No one bothers them there, and they live in a small neighborhood where most of the neighbors know eachother and come over for picnics or parties once in awhile.
Sanatoga isn't so bad either. Both of these are on the outskirts of Pottstown, before Royersford. Stay away from Spring City too....
