Question Live in Pennsylvania, Work in CO

Hi,

I live in PA, but will work in Colorado for 3 months.

What about taxes? I know CO withholds taxes from my paycheck.

What else do I have to pay? I have to pay PA tax as well, and if so how much?

Thanks in advance.

Generally, when you have income in two states, you pay state taxes in both states. Your employer or a tax preparer should be able to give you the correct information.

pittnurse is correct, seek professional advise on this specific topic.

In general for PA you have 3% state income tax and also the local municipality tax, usually starting around 1% of your income and up from there. Some areas also have a "commuter tax" for people who live in one community but work in another. Again, these are just very general and you should seek professional accounting assistance.

No, most of the time you do not need to pay taxes for the same income.

For money earned in Colorado, you HAVE TO pay Colorado tax. However, when you do the PA return:
1. You need to count the CO income, but
2. Also take a CREDIT for the taxes paid to Colorado on the PA return. This way your are not double taxed. I do not know the form number, sorry.

You will need to do find a professional who knows how to do it correctly. Many tax pros do not know about it and, sadly, people over pay their taxes. Unless PA changed their rules, any taxes paid to any other state can be adjusted on your PA return.

Hope this was helpfull.
