Santa Rosa schools outperform Escambia County schools even in neighborhoods with similar demographics. Why is this? Does Eglin AFB pump that much more money into Santa Rosa than Pensacola NAS does for Escambia? What factors are at work here? Any light on this will be appreciated.

Demographics. It may be politically incorrect to say it, but it's true.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. In education, demographics always plays a major role. However, in Escambia, it seems as if the schools are low-performing even in areas where the demographics are similar to those of Santa Rosa. There seems to be a history and other things at work that I don't have a handle on.

The ones in my area, Bratt Elementary, Earnest Ward Middle, and Northview HS, seem to perform better than the county average. I went to Bratt and Earnest Ward back in the 80's. In fact, Earnest Ward is scheduled to be demolished and completely rebuilt next year.

I think most of the bad ones are in Pensacola.
