Default Things to do in fort walton beach!!!

I Have not been to Florida in many years. A coworker, myself, and my teenage son will be coming in July...Hot! Hot! Hot! Last time I was there it was July but this time I'm coming from Missouri where I am used to more humidity. Any tips on relatively inexpensive things to do would be greatly appreciated. We are staying near the Gulfarium and pier. We do plan on going to the Gulfarium. What we need is close by...restaurants, beach etc. But if there is a "must see" please let me know. This is a very exciting trip, my son has never been to the ocean.

He is also not fond of the hot weather, so things to do and stay relatively cool would be appreciated also.

Oddly, in July specifically Missouri and Pensacola don't have much difference in average daily highs. MO gets lower average temp due to the cooler evenings...at least according to this:
City Climate Comparisons

I'd suggest heading over to virtualtourist.com as I really like them. And when on vacation I tend to have eating at non-chain restaurants, or chains we don't have, so yelp.com is good for reviews.

Thanks! Thats helpful info about the weather. Last time I came...it was a trip from Oregon to Orlando. Thought I was going to die. Every summer I think MO will kill me but..I'm still alive!

Thanks for the sites!

Destin is the next town over : Event . Lots of things going on at the Destin Harborwalk such as arts and craft shows, live music on saturday nights, water sport rentals like waverunners/canoe/Kayak/boards , bike rentals, and charter fishing trips that are reasonable . Also, a glass bottom boat ride and a Dolphin Cruise all day long and into the evening.
