My goodness, our move is coming up in 2 weeks from MN to Pensacola and I feel very safe in my neck of the woods all the time. In my city of 15,000 we have 1 sex/offender that is listed. I am sure there is prob. more. but, 22 are listed in a 1 mile radius of the home we are looking to rent. 450 in a 5 mile radius. What the heck is all that about? Every place we look to rent there is a huge num. in the area. I have 2 kids I have to watch out and protect. I don't want to have to worry myself to death. Please someone help put my mind to ease!!

Thanks,

Lissa~What area are you moving to? Some here might be able to suggest better neighborhoods depending on your budget. Those numbers are concerning.

We are possibly moving Off Barrancas/Milton Road by the Country Club area Perdido key Beach. I don't know if it is considered Warrington Or Pensacola. I am so bummed and no longer wanting to leave MN because of the numbers Rent is 845.00 per month. I was told anything over 800.00 is considered expensive. I already checked school site and kids will not go to school and that area. I will drive very far to get them into good schools. My husband was born and raised in Pensacola so he tells me not to worry. Gosh darn it don't tell me that!!!!

Thanks guys!!

Here is my opinion and I hope others chime in. I would skip that area and look at the neighborhoods around Bayou Texar and North continuing up to I-10 and staying north of I-10 if you need stay in P-cola. If you want better schools look at Gulf Breeze and Navarre. Your schools will be based on your address, so unless you are sending them to private schools, you won't have a choice where they go.

Here is a link to the PcolaMLS site. PensacolaMLS.com If you decide on Gulf Breeze or Navare, private message me and I will give you the name of a good realtor.

That's not the best area, kinda run down looking. I would look at the Scenic Heights area east of the airport/Cordova Mall.

If you don't need to be in P'cola I'd look more into Pace over in Santa Rosa County. Much better schools over there.

Uh, I pretty much go where my Husband go since he and his family know more about the areas as they all were born and raised in Pensacola. I have visited 3 times already this year and I am sad that pretty much of Pensacola looks kinda ran down ( I am sure due to the hurricanes and stuff ) except for the really expensive and gated areas. I am not used to the no zoning either. I am excited and yet, sad because I have no clue what pay scale I am expecting being a nurse my husband's pay transfers down there which is very nice what is boils down to is I have to suck it up and maybe in time we can afford to live in the nicer areas.

The Scenic Heights and East Hill area isn't really upper class, but it's not run down either, just well kept middle class homes.

I am in agreement with southernnaturelover...get on the other side of town. Use that link to the mls to find rentals. They can be had in those areas for under $1000. The difference in schools is dramatic as well.
