We are looking for kids and grandkids of our ancestors who moved to Oregon Multnomah from Finland 1907...
There names were Henry Suhonen and Lydia Suhonen and they had at least two daughters Verna and Maire according a photo from 1925 - 1930.
Henry died in Clatsop in 1952 and Lydia in Santa Cruz California 1979 according US public records.

There last home together might have been 309 Ave I in Seaside Oregon...
probably Lydia was a volunteer in the Lutheran church.

Please if there somebody out there in Multnomah or Clatsop who knows more of these people..let us know. We are planning a trip to Oregon since this year it's 100 years since Henry ( called Heikki in Finland) left Helsinki for US.

You might want to post something on Ancestry.com -- Browser Upgrade or www.genealogy.com. Both have bulletin boards specifically for this type of inquiry. I think it's free, but they do have some for-fee services, too, so be aware of the differences.

My ancestors also came over from Finland in the same time frame (Matthiassen and Luukinen...not sure of the spelling so if they're horribly wrong, I apologize). Their names were Americanized so we don't have a lot of information on how they were originally spelled.

A lot of Finns relocated to areas near the coasts of Washington and Oregon, (which is where Clatsop is located). Many of these communities also have some pretty active social clubs specifically for Finns. They might have some genealogical information available, if you can find it.

It might even be a good idea to find some bulletin boards specific to those areas...you might be able to get some better help.

Good luck and enjoy your trip!

ETA: Oh! I just found something:

Death Certificates of Finns in Clatsop County, Oregon

Quote:
SUHONEN, LEO OLAVI -- Born Feb. 16, 1944, Mullan, Idaho. Died Dec. 1, 1944, Astoria, Ore. Father: Gust Suhonen (b. Finland). Mother: Helja Huutila (b. Finland). Burial at Ocean View Cemetery.
Not sure if it helps, but I thought I'd give you the info, just in case. If nothing else, it's a lead on more family in another area.
