I’m doing some research and need to identify somebody who narrated English courses marketed by Grolier in the 1960s through 1980s, or maybe sporadically through those years. Moderator cut: sorry, you can not offer payment on the forum .

Send info to Dan-RS[at]safe-mail.net. Replace the '[at]' with '@' in the e-mail address. I'll respond to every answer if relevant. If I don't, please PM me and/or respond on this forum.

Have you contacted the company yourself to try to get information from them?

Grolier no longer exists as a company in itself. It was taken over by Scholastic, and yes, I contacted them, but they were completely uncooperative.

Default Need to contact people involved in educational recordings by Grolier and/or Regents 1960s-70s

I need to contact people involved in educational recordings by Grolier and/or Regents released during the 1960s and/or the 1970s. E-mail me at Dan-RS[at]safe-mail.net (replace [at] with @ in the e-mail address).

What cities were the headquarters of these companies located in? You would have better luck placing a small classified ad in the city where this company was located.

Place a small classified ad in the city where they were located. Undoubtedly, former employees who live there will know something and contact you. And if I were you, I would contact the local library in that city to see if they have a vertical file about the company that would contain copies of newspaper articles from the past about the company that will have company officials or employees names mentioned that you could possibly contact for additional information.

Thank you for the tips, and thanks Moderator for keeping the info straight.

The original companies seemed all to have been in New York City. I've placed ads on Craigslist for NYC but nothing yet. The library approach may lead to something, but it's been my experience that some librarians can be reluctant to help people outside of their areas. I live in LA.

Thanks again for the tips. You never know what can be helpful. The companies involved are Regents, Prentice-Hall and Grolier. The first two were, and maybe still are, subsidiaries of Simon & Schuster, and Grolier is now Scholastic in Connecticut, but since there have been so many buyouts and takeovers through the years, who knows what's what today.

Are you trying to find the narrator(s)?

If they presented, verbally, the English narratives in the 1960's, say 1963 for example, then if that person was age 20 at the time, then they are age 69-70 now. And age 20 is stretching it somewhat. They are likely older than 70.

The person you look for, could be deceased.

My limited searching shows that they have UK connections, and websites, and you might find some book forum in the UK related to Grolier's.

Also, if you have a budget for expenses, there is an auction on Ebay with 5-6 books dated 1962-63-64-65-66-67.
I'm sure those books have to include the names of many, many people related to Groliers in the index and other part of the books.

You may never find the narrators, but you may find someone who knows the narrators, and any books published in the 1960's might contain the names of people who might know the narrators.

With all those persons being age 65 and over, they are not looking for you.
But, you may find their names, not the narrator's names but a person who might know the narrators, in one or more of their books from the 1960's.
