5thgenSf has made a good find there.

Does all that match up accurately for your Grandfather?

Someone paid for that funeral, even if there was no obituary.
Since the s.s. number was issued in Illinois, do you know the state or city in which your Grandfather died, and was buried?
That can reveal the funeral home, and I have called a few in the past, and they told me who paid for the funeral arrangements.
In 2 cases, the name of the person who paid for it, was a new name, that we did not know about.

I think the son attended the funeral.
It is not impossible for Linda to have been there at the funeral, and only identified herself as an old school friend, etc. (Even though the deceased was her husband, before the divorce)

I think the son took the 3 kids after the divorce.
Maybe the odds are 1%, but she might have gone to the funeral of her former husband, to pay respects, as well as to see her grown kids, though she may not have told them at the funeral who she really was, their biological Mother that they never knew.
I know 0-1% chance that she was there. But, funeral homes can also provide guests list, because I acquired them before.

We'll find this Linda Gayle Smith Byer, if we have to go knocking on doors.
The door might get closed in our face, but that would confirm we had the right one.

it's these names like "smith" that i usually give up on. you almost have to know the answer before you can find it on the web. and even looking at records for people that i knew, often typos or mistakes are posted.

It says that her birth place is Hot Springs, Va(Bath county). She may or may not have been married to William Frank Byer but did have 3 children with him. 2 in sept 1964(twins one boy and one girl). Then my Dad in Sept 1965. It says she was 18 years old at the time of my Dads birth. All and all information or ways/tips to obtain information is much appreicated.
So, your Father was born in Illinois?

Here is what I find:
Frank Byer, born 1-18-1913, died 4-12-1993, died in Phoenix, AZ, s.s number issued in Illinois.
Bernice L. Byer, born 1-6-1919, died 11-6-1999, died in Phoenix, AZ, s.s. number issued in Illinois.

Sounds like a married couple to me.

Your Great Grandparents by chance?

Yes, that is my Great Grandparents. They did not have a funeral serivce for William Frank(My grandad). He lived with a friend named Kay at the time of his death. Marth was his 3rd wife. My Father was born in Illinois and so was William Frank(My Grandad).

Wife 2 is Nancy and who my Dad calls Mom. I have all the details she knows but her details are broken because they came from William Frank who was a liar. Wife 3 Martha is dead.
