Hi All!
I have been searching for a very long time for my Birth mom's maiden
name. This is what I have a problem with, she was divorced when she
gave me up for adoption and when she appeared in court for the adoption
to be finalized.
I can't for the life of me find her maiden name anywhere.
Her divorced name is on all docs, Birth certificate, adoption recoreds,
I do not know her ex husbands name at all.
My Bio father was not married to my bio mother.
You must know the husbands name to get a copy of marriage
certificate, right?
What are the odds, that she never remarried. Not good.
I hit a brick wall, I don't know what to do.
Her divorced name is Dolores Marie Banes. She was born in Pennsylvania.
I was born at Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia, PA.
That is all I know. I was born in 1960, so she was divorced before that.
She was 21 was I was born.
If anyone has any pointers for me as to how I find out her maiden name,
please give suggestion as to where to look.
Thanks so much just for reading this.
Is she still living? Hard to tell from the post. If not, you can probably request a copy of her Social Security application. Quite possibly she worked & applied for a SS card B4 her marriage.
- but if remarried I see that would be hard to find - -
so you know who she was in 1960 and that's it ? and her age & where she was born - - -

nj185 is on the right trail..........of needing more clues.
Are you trying to find Dolores?
How will her maiden name help you?
Her current name and address and phone number is of no value?
Not that I currently have it, but it seems you only want her maiden name.
So, Dolores got married and divorced before age 21.
Then she met your biological Father and you were born when she was age 21.
Then your biological Father left.
Then you were put up for adoption by Dolores?
((( Her divorced name is on all docs, Birth certificate, adoption records, I do not know her ex husbands name at all.)))
The name of the man she divorced should be on those divorce records.
(Both names are on the divorce records for my parents)
Howard,
She was only 21 when she gave birth, and was already divorced from Mr. Banes.
The bio father listed on my birth certificate was 32 and not Mr. Banes.
I have a strong suspicion he was already married (bio father).
You are right though, what good would maiden name do? I don't know.
Maby it is not relevant at all. Mabey it could give clues as to other relatives in the Philadelphia
area, I don't know.
I don't know the name of the man she was married to and divorced from as of 1960.
I tried to look up marriage certificate, thinking it probably would be easier to find,
and it requires name of groom. I don't know his name, it wasn't on Birth certificate.
Looking under Banes, can't find a 72 year old Dolores Marie Banes anywhere.
So I thought, mabey she did remarry, that is why I can't find her under the name of
Banes.
The spelling of Banes is exactly how it was spelled on birth certificate.
It's not as common as I thought.
I would like to know where she is, that is all, I am not going to call her at this point.
I have been frustrated only because I can't find her.
Thank you all for your help so far.
Do you know anyone who might know if Dolores had any brothers?
Their last name would not have changed.
One of them could be living in Pa. to this very day.
Seems to me, if you've been looking for as long as you have (according to other websites), and you know her married name at the time, why not spend a little money for a better search to nail down the right person? There are plenty of websites that offer that service. Should save you the headache of going through a free site like this that can only do so much.

you haven't mentioned his name, but he certainly might know her maiden name. have you looked for him?

Around 50 Banes with addresses in Pa.
I'd bet that one, or more, are related to the Mr. Banes, that was divorced around 1956-1959.
(self, son(s), unmarried daughter(s), grandson(s), brother(s), nephew(s))
Carefully written letters, w/self addressed stamped envelopes enclosed, might get some replies back.
A small box of envelopes and about $45 in stamps.
Cheaper than a PI.
And I would not be too quick to assume they'll all be unwilling to reply to you, or tell you basic details like a name.
Of course you are not related to him, and that fact, makes me think, you get replies.
You are a friend of a friend of the elder Mr. Bane, nothing more.

Dear...........
I believe the best chance of finding Dolores’ maiden name is to try and locate the marriage record.
All marriages after 1915 are held by the Marriage License Bureau at City Hall.
Marriage License Bureau, Room 415 City Hall, Philadelphia, PA 19107.
phone: 215-686-2234
Their marriages are indexed by last name, separated by year.
The index contains the Husband’s first and last name, and the wife’s maiden name (last name only.)
>>>>>>> It would be possible to look up all the Banes from 1957-59 and then look up each individual record to find Dolores Marie as the wife.
We could do this search, but we cannot give an estimate of how much time it would take.
Our research rates start at $55/hr for the first hour for non members.
Sincerely,
The Historical Society of Pennsylvania

I posed 1957-1959 to them, because if the divorce was in 1960, the marriage was very likely 1957-1959.

Good luck on this, and post back any results you have.
