I am trying to help my cousin find her biological mother.
The only information available:

Mirel B. Armstrong
She lived at 24 Georgia Ave in Providence, RI as a teen.
Attended Hope High School - should have been class of 1959.
She wanted to become a nurse.
Gave birth to a baby girl on 3/9/1959 who was given up for adoption.
She then disappeared and my cousin has been unable to find her.

If anyone out there has any information, please contact:
Anna.S.Armstrong@gmail.com

Thank you so much in advance.

A correction to the above post. My cousin was born on 3/9/60 NOT 3/9/59.
Hoping one of the regular (and most awesome) searchers can help!

the 1st name is MIREL? not Muriel or something else? I find her listed in that year in that school, but given her age, she should have been listed in the 1940 census - I can't come up with any Mirel's [with any last name !] in Rhode Island.

It's spelled Mirel on the high school site but I didn't find anything else.

Mirel Armstrong, Providence, RI Rhode Island

Yes, it is definitely Mirel, not Muriel. It is really strange that she left no trail whatsoever. I'm guessing she was born in 1941 or 1942 since she graduated from high school in 1959.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post.....who knows, maybe someone will come along one day who knows her. I have also posted on Facebook and asked friends to share.

Default A bit more info

A bit more information from my cousin - I have copied and pasted her email as well as a pic.

"I found out from the agency that her parents came from new York and so did she. Her mother died when she was 11 or 12 and her father was in a wheelchair and could not work so they came to RI to stay with family while Mirel went to high school. She lived on Georgia Avenue and Arlene Kusick knows two women who lived next door to her at that time. The agency (Jewish Family Services) said she left RI in september 1960 to go to
Nursing school in Boston. She was never heard from again by anyone here. I found a marriage license on ancestry.com that I thought was a match, but I contacted her and she's not the one. Mirel was born in 1941. That's really all I know.

The marriage license I found was from Connecticut, 1961, to a man named Joseph Landolfo. I'm Facebook friends this person now: Millie Landolfo, but either she can't come out or she's not the one. I do know that my grandmother died in 1952. I thought this fit with the person I found, my grandmother's name would have been Aurelia, but they say no."

Probably one of the first things to do would be to search all
the states marriage records starting with 1959 then forward
through the 60's and 70's.
I think your cousin should hire a private investigator from
Mass or RI. This looks like one for the pros.

So her grandmother was named Aurelia?

And were they Jewish? or was that just the agency used?

I know Armstrong is not a Jewsih name but back in the 1950's this was a Jewish neighbrohood. The name could have been changed. My cousin was adopted into our Jewish family and, yes, Jewish Family Service was the agency used for the adoption.

There are Jewish Armstrongs :+) or at least people looking for them on Jewish GenWeb. I honestly don't think at that time someone would choose an agency not of their faith. Not saying it's impossible, just unlikely.

As for Aurelia, an unusual name. Looking at the 1940 census, IF they were married at that time, in NY there is an Aurelia Armstrong married to a James who was born in 1909 living in the Bronx . The had a child - Barbara - born 1936. James Armstrong though, was born in Canada, about 1904 and he was listed a a Jr Electrical Engineer for the Dpt of Transportation
_____
There is a Catherine Armstrong also in the yearbook that year - is she related to Mirel? You said they went to live with relatives. Of course hard to tell the relatives names, but it is possible they were Armstrongs.
