Augusta College
Augusta College was chartered by the Kentucky Legislature in 1822. It was the product of the combined efforts of the Ohio and Ketucky Annual Conferences of the Methodist Episcopal Church and the Trustees of the Bracken Academy which was located in Augusta, Kentucky. The college was the first Methodist College that was allowed to confer degrees as a result of attending the College. The College was eventually closed by the Kentucky Legislature in 1849 due to lack of support of the Conferences, as well as Augusta becoming a center of abolitionist feelings in Kentucky. When the College closed, her "orphaned graduates" were adopted by Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
