I was a showgirl/dancer of the Vive Les Girls road show at the 67 Montreal Expo. Our show was produced by Frederick Apcar who produced all shows of the Dunes Hotel in Las Vegas.

While in Montreal, many photographs were taken of us by the photographer Syd Torkin. I am trying to find Syd Torkin or anyone who worked with him and has his studio to purchase some of the photos of Vive Les Girls. Most of my photos were destroyed during numerous moves around the world.

If Syd Torkin gave up his studio, his family might have it or know who to contact for the many photos that he took.

Please help me find Syd Torkin.

Thanks.

Raya

The link MrBill gave you shows one of the photos that you may already have seen which shows his name as Syd Torkin.

The Société de généalogie de Québec has a marriage and death index for the period 1926 to 1996. That index shows a Sidney Torkin who was born Dec. 4, 1930 and died in Montreal on June 24, 1992. The cemetery shows him being buried on June 25, 1992 and his parents were Max Torkin and G. Goldberg (Faigie).

It may or may not be that he was known professionally as Syd, with the death notice showing an alternative name.
I'm not finding anything else at the moment.
Hopefully something turns up for you and the Syd Torkin you knew is alive and well.

Raya,
Here is Syd's obituary. I've located one of his relatives and if you wish to contact them please let me know.
They would enjoy hearing from you I'm sure.

Hi Howard,

This time, I hope that I am replying to you correctly. I wish to thank you again for finding Rebecca Torkin whom I plan to call tomorrow evening when telephone prices are lower.

Have you gotten any news regarding Larry Parks? I hope that you will continue to help me find him.

As for Skype, it is quite easy. Go to Skype.com, download it and then you can look for people you know and see if they are on Skype and if yes, just send them an invitation just like with Facebook and if they reply, then their name will be added automatically to your Skype list with an arrow when they are online. You can then call them or write them an SMS, even if they are not online, they will see your message when they get on line. My Skype name is either raya meron or rainbows4all, try both as I forget which is which.

I look forward to your reply and wish you a Happy Easter.

Raya

Well, Happy Easter to you and everyone on the forum.
Give Mrs. Purcell a call.
She wants to talk to you about her brother and your experiences at the Expo.

Am a bit late, but here are my very best wishes for Easter and Passover for health and happiness to all. I called Rebecca and spoke to her answering machine. I will call her later this evening and will let you know. Any news about Larry? I think there is no need to find out where Henry died, unless you manage to talk to Billie. I would love to talk to her as I admire her and having been a dancer myself, I would like to talk to her if she agrees. When I last saw Henry in N.Y., I asked him about Billie, he did not want to talk about her and did not tell me that they had been married and divorced. Raya
